Easy-To-Make Puppets for Beginning Puppeteers Written and Illustrated by C.J. Brown

I have loved puppets since the first time I saw the Shari Lewis Show whenI was about four years old. My own children grew up with the Muppets© . I used puppets regularly in the classroom as an important tool when I was teaching school. I now am the Children's Librarian at a public library and evey year I present puppet shows at the local elementary schools to encourage children to use the library. I am always surprised to find that even the most technologically savvy children still respond to puppets with delight. Their parents and teachers also seem to love the puppets and will tell me how import the puppet shows are to the children The information in these pages was developed for use in a series of puppet workshopswhich I taught in 1995. I wanted to share good practical advice as well aspatterns and "inspiration" to those who have not used puppets before. Though the informationwas written specifically for use by teachers and librarians, most ofthe designs and ideas here can be easily adapted for recreational and home use.I have continued to teach puppet making and puppetry for teachers and librarians and encourage you to write to me if you have any questions. I updated and expanded the workshop in 2007. I hope you will enjoy it.
