Christmas morning is the time for children to excitedly open and play with the presents left by Santa and for grown ups to exchange gifts, which are normally gathered together under the Christmas tree. Once the presents are opened, many people attend a church Christmas service. The highlight of the day is the Christmas dinner attended by family and friends. Colourful Christmas crackers are placed next to each place setting at the table and when they are pulled, party hats in the shape of crowns, toys and festive jokes tumble out. After dinner, it is a custom to watch the Queen's Christmas message to the nation on television, a tradition begun by King George V. The indulgence continues with chocolate, nuts, cakes, dates and other treats.
