Associate Professorship in Theoretical Particle Physics

Faculty Renewal Program

As part of its program for faculty renewal, the Niels Bohr Institute (NBI) announces the availability of an associate professorship in theoretical particle physics. The position will be open from December 1, 2005. The NBI constitutes the departments of physics, astronomy, geophysics and biophysics of the University of Copenhagen with a faculty of 65. Details of the research activities of the institute may be found on the home page www.nbi.ku.dk.

The Theoretical Particle group at NBI has a permanent staff of 7, and in addition has on the average 10 visitors/non-permanent staff. The associate professor must have an outstanding independent research profile which can support and complement the current activities in theoretical particle physics, and should have a documented excellent scientific production at an international level. The candidate should have a strong interest in all facets of university teaching, including the supervision of MSC and PhD students. The successful candidate must be able to teach undergraduate courses in Danish within two years of appointment.

In accordance with the Ministerial Circular on Job Structure, appointment to the position of associate professor requires documented scientific production at an international level and documented teaching qualifications. In the event that the applicant lacks sufficient teaching experience through an appointment as assistant professor or acquired corresponding teaching experience, the appointment will be probationary for a period of up to 1½ years.

Terms of appointment and salary are set by agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) on Academics in the State. In addition to the salary based on seniority, the successful applicant will receive an annual pensionable supplement of 72,213.79. Negotiation for further supplement will be possible.
