Jim Lindberg (vocals), Fletcher Dragge (guitar), Byron McMackin (drums) and Jason Thirsk (bass) formed Pennywise in 1988. In 1989 they released their first EP entitled "A Word from the Wise" on Theologian records. Then, in 1990, they signed with Epitaph. They released their self titled debut the following year. That same year, Lindberg left the band to be replaced by Randy Bradbury on bass and Thirsk moved to the do the vocals. Shorly after that, they released their "Wildcard" EP. Lindberg rejoined the band in 1992 as they were trying to release an album with Thirsk doing the vocals. After deciding to focus on their career, Pennywise got to work and released "Unknown Road" in 1993. Despite the numerous label offers, Pennywise stayed with Epitaph to release their third album in 1995, "About Time". In 1996, Thirsk left the band temporarily to control his alcolhol addiction. Randy Bradbury filled in again on bass and was supposed to move to guitar after Thirsk had conquered his addiction. However, Thirsk commited suicide after an alcohol binge in 1996. Pennywise continued, shaken by the tragedy but stayed strong. Bradbury was made a permanent member. "Full Circle" was released nearly a year later in 1997 and then followed by "Straight Ahead" two years later. In 2000, Pennywise released it's latest effort, a live album called "Live at The Key Club". ~ Lis Montgomery (this was a long one..)
