| The new type of phone card to Oman, the ALPHACARD previously tested experimentally by employees of PDO (Petrolium Developement Oman) has now
been released to the general public. The AlphaCards are available in denominations of OR.1:500, OR.3:000 and OR.5:000. These cards can be used from payphones and home or office phones for local, national and international calls simply by dialing an
access number (1230) then The original recorded message is in Arabic but you can choose English by dialing *1. You are then prompted to enter the card number. You are then informed of the credit balance available on the card and prompted to dial the
number that you require. The general release card varies from the experimental ones in that it is now made of a thicker plastic (the same as the normal phonecards) and has a 'scratch' area covering the card number and is sealed in a transparent envelope. The instructions for use are printed on the reverse side of the cards together with the card number that has to be entered using the telephone keypad. The pictures remain the same for the current issue. A card with no face value (Taqah) is also available for use by Companies who may purchase 'time' for the card and issue them to their employees. | The Omantel 'AlphaCards' System has been transferred to a private company 'In Touch'. The cards are restricted for use only in what is known as the Capital Area, this covers a very large area of Northern Oman and a large proportion of the population. Local, National and International calls can be made from any telephone, except GSM.
