Aaliyah's full name is Aaliyah Dani Haughton. Her first name stands for "highest, most exalted one" in Swahili. Born January 16, 1979 in Brooklyn, NY, she moved to Detroit at age of 5. She graduated in June, 97' from The School for Performing Arts in Detroit. Aaliyah began her singing career at a young age. As a child, she sings in church and in school plays. "I've been singing all my life. I've always wanted this," she said in an interview. At the age of 9, she was already performing professionally: she auditioned for record companies and performed on start search. By the time she was 11 years old, she was already singing on stage in Las Vegas for a five-night stand with Gladys Knight. With the help of R Kelly, her first album, "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number", released when she was only 15, was a great success. Hits like "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number", "Back And Forth", and "Down With The Clique" carried the album to a platinum record. After a few years, Aaliyah and her new producer Timberland released her second album, "One In A Million", in late 1996. Hits like "If Your Girl Only Knew", "One In A Million", "Hot Like Fire", and "The One I Gave My Heart To" carried the album to multi-platinum and yet another success. Recent years, some of her major hits appears in movie sound track such as "Dr. Dolittle" and "Romeo Must Die". Hits like "Are You That Somebody?" (my personal favorite) and "Try Again" bring her fame to the acme. Summer of 2001, Aaliyah' career hit yet another peak. Her success in her new album, which includes famous hit "We Need A Resolution", was a phenomena. She also found success in movie career and was to star in "Queen of the Damned" and in both Matrix 2 and 3. However, the plane-crash tragedy happen on August 25, 2001 came all too soon. We love you forever, Aaliyah!
