This is same with the BTL4A YWing. YWings predate the TIE/ln and the XWing by several years. These fighters can take a lot of punishment but they lack maneuverability and speed, which gives Alliance Fighters the advantage. As an added bonus the rugged construction of the BTLS3 allows it to take a considerable amount of damage before its systems fail. It is not uncommon for the Rebels to strip down a YWing for assault runs on our convoys and be refitted days later for a heavy bomb runs on our bases. If pilots are not careful in combat against a YWing, they can be devastating in close quarters combat. The BTLS3 is rarely seen in use by the Rebel Alliance anymore by Alliance Forces and it is suspected that the Rebels have begun to favor the BTLA4 YWing. Like the XWing, the astromech droid fits into a droid socket behind the cockpit and monitors all flight, navigation and power systems. The droid can also handle fire control, perform inflight maintenance and reroute power as needed. The Gunner replaces the augmented targeting computer equipment featured in the BTLA4 YWing. The YWing has three main components. The forward armored cockpit module, the reinforced central spar, which houses the power generator, shield generator and the hyperdrive unit and not to mention the astromech droid. And finally the last main component, which is the crosswing which houses the power cells and attaches the engines to the body of the YWing. Behind the dome coverings on the engines are the sensor arrays of this fighter. |
