Class Profile:   Capitol Ship Heavy Cruiser

Notes:   The MC80 was originally a civilian ship designed for pleasure cruises and for exploration and colonization efforts. Admiral Ackbar convinced his people to ally themselves to the Rebel Alliance. Immediately several of these cruisers were modified. The Mon Calamari provided the Rebel Alliance with virtually the only star cruises in their Rebel Fleet. Originally these ships were literally covered with transparent view ports which allowed the passengers to have a great view of space, certainly this made it pleasant to be onboard these ships, however it had a detrimental effect on the vessel's survivability in combat. In response many of these ports have been covered up with hull plating, heavy blast doors or anything else available to provide extra protection. Each of these vessels are unique in design, to the Mon Calamari their ships are a work of art as well as weapons of war. These organically shaped vessels baffle Alliance Engineers, each of the bumps, pods and bulges on these ships house weapons, sensors, shield generators, observation decks and other systems.

On the bridge, view screens and display monitors are for the Mon Calamarian vision spectrum, which looked warped and distorted by nonCalamarians. Some of the controls of the vessel can only be operated in movement control chairs, this is perfectly natural for Mon Cals but it is nearly impossible for other species to perform. While many species make up the crew of a Mon Calamari Cruiser, most of the command crew is Mon Calamari. The MC80 comes equipped with multiple shield generators, which allows Rebel crews to quickly replace damaged shield arrays even while in combat. Due to this fact, it is more difficult for Imperial Gunners to wear down a MC80's defenses. These ships are notoriously difficult to repair, however they are quite durable, which means that they are seldom damaged in combat. These ships are equipped with many redundant systems to prevent the MC80 from being crippled easily, however these systems make the MC80 difficult to service and maintain. However, it does also make these vessels more reliable in combat. Unfortunately these vessels have proven surprisingly effective in combat. Their main advantage is that MC80 crews have better training compared to other Rebel vessels. The MC80 is almost identical in performance to the MC80a; its physical difference is often confusing to inexperienced Alliance commanders.
