Notes:   The RZ1 AWing is the most effective armed reconnaissance craft in the Rebel Fleet. The AWing was developed secretly after the Battle of Yavin. Since it's introduction, the AWing's mission profile has undergone many significant modifications. The RZ1 is best suited to lightning hitandfade operations rather than escort duty, which was its original design definition. The introduction of the AWing boosted the overall performance of the Alliance fleet considerably, however this class of fighter is easily damaged. The AWing is used for reconnaissance, shiptoship combat and hit and run attacks and is difficult to pilot since it is constantly pushing the limits of performance.

The AWing's rotational laser cannons can pivot sixty degrees up or down, and some AWings have been modified to fire back at enemies automatically. These pivoting lasers give this fighter a far firing arc than starfighters with fixed weapons. Each laser cannon is powered by independent batteries, saving energy for the sensor and communications countermeasures. The most notorious of which is the sensorjamming packets designed to blind enemies before they are able to strike. However, the system is generally only effective against vessels of the fighter grade.

The AWing is constantly subject to incredible stresses and its engines, hull and weapons systems require constant maintenance. If not properly maintained, the AWing can suffer from breakdowns, due largely to the stress put on the chassis and power systems by the twin Novaldex J77 Event Horizon engines. However, with proper care, the AWing can be and is one of the deadliest fighters in the galaxy.

Because of the AWing's small size, its complex components are packed together extremely tightly, making the fighter extremely sensitive to internal damage in combat situations. It is, however, capable of being quite stealthy, able to evade sensor sweeps until it is virtually on top of it's enemy. This is conjectured to be a result of the AWing's design angles, which reflect sensor packets away from their source, and can sometimes disappear altogether from a contact sweep.
