Spring 2000. These are the parts I purchased using the proceeds from the sale of my VW trike. I've done a little preliminary assembly for the photo. The parts were pretty grungy from sitting around for more than 20 years. The Chrome on the Springer parts were toast so they have been re-plated. Many $$$$$$.

Good photo of the Pre-1951 Harley Servi-Car rear-end. For those that don't know it is chain driven using a #530 chain. The sprocket within has 37 teeth.

Have decided to have a rear body/fenders so I've started the bracketry and welded in an old sizzy bar. Originally when this photo was taken I had tacked in a driver backrest but since have changed my mind as I will build a step-up seat. The driver backrest has been removed.

Good photo of the original 70's era Gary Littlejohn - "Coffin Tank". Capacity 2 gallons. Has never had gas in it. Just needs to be cleaned. Will seal it for good measure.

Preliminary body work and rear gas tank support made/cut from aluminum.

That's a brand new Harley Servi-Car master cylinder. Ya! they are still available. The rear brakes are hydraulic. I mounted the master cylinder in this location so I could use the original Honda foot lever and pivot with minor modification. As a result it's lower than my wheel cylinders so I will have to install one of those residual valves.

Had to finish the roll of film. More of the rear body with it finally painted.

These parts were in a back yard under a tarp in excess of 20 years. Needless to say any chrome was toast and the metal work needed finishing. The rear body is handmade using 16 gauge sheet metal. Also the body was designed to be taken off if need be. The wheels you see were 15x10 chrome reverse with H50-15 bias ply tires. Luckily for me my chrome-plater is building a street rod so he took these old wheels and tires in trade for some chrome work. In the following photo's you'll see that I got some 15"x10"Cragar SS Rims with brand new BF Goodrich Radials in a trade with my friend "Lee" for 4 Turbine Style Rims and tires I had on my El Camino at one time.

September 2001

Rear-end shot of the CB750 Trike. You probably have figured out that I like the diamond plate and the spun aluminum gas tanks. Unlike the VW Trike the forward "Coffin Tank" will be functional but it only handles 2 gallons. With the rear spun aluminum one I've got 5 gallons total. The rear fenders are all hand made from 16 gauge steel. The rear bumper is hand-made and affords lot of places for lights. Speaking of which; the 3rd brake lite is from an early 80's Lebaron Convertible. Fits perfect.

I had this mural painted on the tank. It was actually on a sweat-shirt I had and the muralist did a excellent job of re-creating it. I still have to clear coat the tank.

Thought I'd throw in a photo of the front wheel. Now you have to look close! First the wheel was over 25 years old and the fellow that I bought the original parts from literally had pieces and parts stuck in the mud for most of those years. Anyway I had it stripped then I sandblasted whatever else I could remove but nobody will re-chrome it for me without parting with both arms and my remaining good leg so I painted it with "chrome" paint. I don't like it so it's coming back off. I'm gonna sandblast it again and I'm gonna paint it the chrome yellow thats on the trike. Now I told you to look close. First, the dual rotors are chrome early seventies 8"ers but the interesting parts are the "rockers" The fellow I bought the starting parts from is a machinist and he made those rockers as well as the Springer front end. The "Rockers" are definitely conversation pieces.

Well this picture was taken September 17/2001. You can see the Springer which has a rake of 38 degrees and is 23.5 inches over the normal lenght of a stock springer front end. Gauges are custom chrome items as are the 1" handlebars and controls. I've made my own chainguard using stainless steel, the rear-end is pre 1951 Harley servi-car and I'm utilizing the original speedo drive but had to make up a custom speed cable. The rear brakes are functioned by a re-worked honda pedal which activates an original servicar master cylinder. The seat pan was handmade and covered with a creamy white naughahyde with diamond pattern on top. The Trike is not quite finished but I will take the winter months to complete it and be on the road Spring 2002.

September 1, 2003, Well I've driven my CB750 Trike on a few occassions and a major change is now in the works. That "Custom Springer is "HISTORY". It is downright too dangerous to drive that machine. I'm in the process of removing that lovely springer and saving it for my next project and putting on a stock CB750 Honda front end with a 6" extension on the tubes. This will afford me alot better braking and more stability with keeping the front end at a more respectable 26 degrees. That's the changes for now.
