My true first love in toys for boys is my 66 Dodge ragtop. It's been with me since 1984 and I am the fourth owner of this vehicle. It was produced here in Windsor in 1966 and the car has never left the county except for three trips to Florida in the early 80's by the previous owner to me. The car now has 175,000 miles and I have only had to replace the timing chain, I've converted it to electronic ignition and I had to re-build the carb. I traded a 1977 Honda CB750 Supersport for this car. That's how I came by it. I worked with this fellow for awhile and one day we dropped by his home on an errand. I noticed the car sitting in the back yard slowly sinking into the earth. This fellow had been bugging me to buy my Honda Supersport for months. I asked him what the deal was on the car and he said that the rear fenders and trunk floor had rotted away and he didn't have the time or inclination to fix the car. I proposed a trade of the Honda for the Dodge on the condition that the car would start and move thru all gears. Unbelievably he went to his shed, retrieved a battery and after pumping the gas pedal about twenty times the car fired right up. Even the choke was working properly. He dropped it into reverse, we waited a moment for the tranny to pump up and away we went along our test drive. The deal was done. Ownership for Ownership. I think I got the better end of the deal. |
