A Gallifreyan ambassador to the Hoothi is taken over by the Hoothi Consciousness and used in an attempt to take over Gallifrey. The Gallifreyans defeat the Hoothi and drive them into hyperspace.

They find that Atrios has long since annihilated the inhabitants of Xeos, and that the Shadow, an agent of the Black Guardian, has been perpetuating the war using Mentalus, a war computer located on Xeos and built by the Time Lord Drax. With Drax’s assistance, they are able to disable Mentalus and destroy the Shadow. The sixth segment is found to be Princess Astra of Atrios. Once the Time Lords find that they have in fact been working for the Black Guardian all along, the Doctor shatters the Key tracer and scatters the segments back through time and space, restoring Astra to life.

Lady Adrasta fears that trade with Tythonis will endanger her monopoly on the metal trade, and she has Erato thrown into a pit on her estates where he remains imprisoned for several years. Tythonis is aware of the situation, and launches a neutron star to destabilize Chloris’s sun and destroy the planet.
