NOVEMBER 2009

 

November 19, 2009 - January 1, 2010: Wayne County LightFest

        

At Hines Park. No nighttime spectacle can compare to Wayne County LightFest. With 4 1/2 miles of giant animated displays and nearly a million lights along Hines Drive, it's the Midwest's largest Holiday Light Show. Drive through 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily, November 19 - January 1 [closed Christmas Day]. Enter at Hines Drive and Merriman, 2 1/2 miles south of I-96 in Westland. A minimum of $5 per car helps keep LightFest operating. For more info call: 734-261-1990.

 November 20, 2009: Annual Lighting of Detroit's Holiday Tree Christmas carols, hot chocolate, figure skaters and the annual lighting of the holiday tree at Detroit's Campus Martius Park.

 November 22-29, 2009: Annual Festival of Trees at the Allen Park Municipal Auditorium, 16870 Southfield Road, Allen Park, MI. Festival of Trees is a public display of professionally designed holiday trees, locally designed 2’ trees, individually designed centerpieces, a festive gift shop, and more. Festival of Trees is one of the largest annual special event fundraisers benefiting Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Since its inception in 1985, this volunteer-driven effort has attracted visitors from all over Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, New York and Canada.

November 26, 2009: 83rd Annual Detroit's Thanksgiving Dayin Downtown Detroit. The 2009 Parade theme with an inspirational tag is dubbed "Together We Shine." The theme is a celebration of The Parade Company bringing Detroit together for a special moment in time, one that ignites a magical memory for families at one of Detroit's largest and free events. The first parade was held on the streets of Detroit in 1924.

In keeping with the theme of shining together, The Parade Company is having a food drive to help families and people in need in the community. The items, which should be non-perishable, will be collected at numerous Parade events now through the rest of Parade season. The food will then be donated to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.

The two-hour parade, beginning at 9:20 a.m., will be featured on WDIV-TV Local 4 with a one-hour national broadcast reaching over 65 million households nationwide. Families are welcome to come out to Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit on Nov. 26 to enjoy and be dazzled with over 60 crowd favorites ranging from floats, marching bands and of course, new surprises.

DECEMBER 2009

December 5, 2009: 37th Annual Noel Night in Midtown Detroit. Over 20 institutions, including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the New Detroit Science Center, and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History open their doors to the public free of charge during this Cultural Center-wide holiday "open house." Activities include horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday shopping, family craft activities and performances by over 70 area music and dance groups. The evening's festivities culminate with a community sing-along on Woodward Avenue led by the Salvation Army Band.

December 6, 2009: Rochester Christmas Parade in downtown Rochester, MI. The parade starts at 1:45 p.m., and includes dignitaries, bands, children’s group, community organizations and local businesses. The parade is also broadcast live on WXYZ-TV Channel 7.

JANUARY 2010

January 11-24, 2010: North American International Auto Show in Detroit. One of the premier international auto shows in the world! Public Show is where you get to see it all. One of the largest shows in the United States the show is located at Cobo Center where it occupies 1 million square feet of floor space.

January 22-24, 2010: 28th Annual Plymouth International Ice Sculpture Spectacular in Plymouth, Michigan, USA (Just West of Detroit). Over 100 statues carved from a single block of ice; numerous multiple block sculptures utilizing from 5 to 100 blocks; dozens of high school, community college, university, and professional ice carvers crafting dazzling statues from 330-pound blocks of ice and a series of special homecoming events.

January 22 - 30, 2010: 9th Annual Ferndale Metro Blues Festival in Ferndale (just north of Detroit). Annual event. Since 2001, a city-wide Blues Festival to raise money for charity. Clubs, restaurants, and bars in downtown Ferndale host live blues concerts during a weekend donating cover charges and raising funds through raffles and sponsorships. The Ferndale Metro Blues Festival averages more than 60 concerts held over nine days at two dozen locations in the region.

January 29-30, 2010: 33rd Annual Ann Arbor Folk Festival at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor. The Ark's largest annual fundraising event with some of the finest in traditional and contemporary artists.

January 30, 2010: 5th Annual Fire and Ice Festival  at at the Senior Center in Northville and the Town Square. chili & salsa Cook-off and ice carving demonstrations.

FEBRUARY 2010

February 5-7, 2010: 6th Annual Detroit's Winter Blast in Downtown Detroit. A unique combination of hip and fun winter events that are centered around Campus Martius Park and fantastic indoor events throughout Detroit.

February 5-7, 2010: World of Motorcycles Expo in London Ontario, Canada. Annual event featuring "everything from new to custom motorcycles, retail dealers, accessories, and services of interest to motorcycle enthusiasts of all descriptions."

February 12-14, 2010: 7th Annual Village of Rochester Hills Ice Carving Festival located at the NE corner of Walton and Adams Roads in Rochester Hills. It is open Monday-Saturday from 10:00 until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from Noon until 6:00 p.m. World-class ice carving professionals will take up their laser sharp ice tools and chain saws when the Village of Rochester Hills hosts a weekend of ice sculpting, shopping and dining. Nearly 25 entertaining, and artistic ice sculptures will grace the streets and parks of the Village.

February 13-21, 2010: 52nd Annual Detroit Boat Show in Detroit. The "Premier" boating event in the State of Michigan. "The Detroit Boat Show is actually known as one of the best boat shows in the country in regards to size, sales, and attendance."

February 16, 2010: Paczki Day in Hamtramck, MI. Paczki Day, also known as Fat Tuesday (the day before Lent), is a long-standing Hamtramck tradition. Paczki are a special Polish pastry filled with fruit and covered with powered sugar and orange zest. If you never tried these they are unbelievable. You gotta live in near Chicago or Detroit to get the real deal. For tradition's sake, you gotta make the trip to Hamtramck for the real thing. Go early to beat some of the crowds, many that work downtown stop on their way into the office.

February 27 & 28, 2010: 104th & 105th Annual Detroit Kennel Club Benched Dog Shows at Cobo Center in Detroit. One of only six annual benched shows left in the United States, the DKC Dog Show regularly draws more than 3000 entries.

MARCH 2010

March 3-6, 2010: 13th Annual Metro Times Blowout  in Hamtramck (North of Downtown Detroit).Music fest showcasing over 200 Michigan Music Artists at 15 venues over 4 nights.

March 5-7, 2010: The Michigan Golf Show in Novi (northwest of Detroit). The Nation's Largest Golf Show. Over 500 local, national and world-wide resorts, retailers and specialty exhibitors occupy over 7 acres.

March 5-7, 2010: 58th Annual Detroit AutoRama in Detroit. "America's Greatest Hot Rod Show", held at Cobo Center. The show brings together many of the top builders in the country, many of whom are eyeing one of hot rodding's most glorious prizes, the Don Ridler Memorial Award.

March 11-14, 2010: 18th Annual Spring Boating Expo in Novi at the Rock Financial Showplace. More than 100 exhibitors under one roof, showing boats for skiing, fishing, and cruising up to 27 feet in length. Plus, personal watercraft; electronics; accessories; dockage; docks; hoists and much, much more.

March 14, 2010: 52nd Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Detroit. The Parade always convenes the Sunday prior to March 17th and promptly steps off at 2:00 P.M. sharp. The Parade route is along Michigan Avenue in the area known as "Corktown", so designated for its history as home to many early arriving immigrants from Ireland and specifically, County Cork. The Parade covers a dozen or so blocks and passes historic Tiger Stadium.

March 23-28, 2010: 48th Annual Ann Arbor Film Festival in Ann Arbor. A premiere showcase for creative, inspiring, and influential films of all types: avant-garde and experimental, story-based narratives, documentaries, and animation. The Ann Arbor Film Festival is the longest-running film festival of its kind in North America and receives more than 2,000 submissions annually from more than 30 countries.

APRIL 2010

April 8-11, 2010: 102nd Annual Detroit Shrine Circus at the Michigan State Fair Coliseum in Detroit. Come out and join our circus for the day! Be part of the excitement and fun - you'll love it. Come see the animals, the clowns and this year's features.

April 9, 2010: Detroit Tigers Home Opener at Comerica Park. Detroit Tigers vs. the Cleveland Indians.

May 1-8, 2010: 81st Annual Tulip Time Festival in Holland, MI (West Michigan). Parades, Klompen Dancers (nearly 1,700 total dancers), music and variety shows from headline entertainers to the remarkably talented local folk, a Dutch market, an art and craft fair, fireworks, an outdoor carnival, trolley tours, more.

May 14-16, 2010: 28th Annual Downtown Hoedown Detroit at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit. 99.5 WYCD Downtown Hoedown country music fest includes established & new artists "and is widely recognized as the largest Country Music show of its kind in the world." held at Hart Plaza. List of performers and schedule are posted on website.

May 14-16, 2010: Motor City Comic Con in Novi. Annual "multi-media event with over 1 million comics and collectables for sale and trade. "Comic books, writers, artists, anime, gaming, special guests, and more. Convention held at the Rock Financial Showplace.

May 16, 2010: Flower Day at Eastern Market in Detroit. Attended by more than 150,000 people annually, Flower Day at the Eastern Market is one of the largest flower shows in the country. Members of the Metro Detroit Flower Growers Association (MDFGA), and hundreds of flower growers from Michigan, Canada and neighboring states fill the market with their colorful array offerings.

May 29-31, 2010: Detroit's Electronic Music Festival in Downtown Detroit. Annual internationally recognized Memorial Day weekend event now produced by Paxahau. List of performers will be posted on schedule page of website. Event was formerly known as "FUSE-in: Detroit's Electronic Movement" and "Detroit Techno Fest".

JUNE 2010

24th Annual Detroit Festival of the Arts in Detroit. Family friendly festival presents outstanding visual and performing artists from around the world, while showcasing the city's premier arts and cultural institutions clustered within its boundaries. Artwork for sale in the Avenues of Art, the rockin' soul sound of King Solomon Burke, Latin rhythms, jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove, Richard Thompson, spoken word, puppet procession, many children's activities.

June 5-20, 2010: 17th Annual Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival in Southeast Michigan. Annual event. 20 concerts, various locations.

June 18-20, 2010 (fri-sun): 33rd Annual Belleville National Strawberry Festival in Belleville (west of Detroit). Parade, carnival, car show, music and other entertainment, arts & crafts, marathon race and more every Father's Day weekend.

June 19, 2010: 12th Annual Cruisin' Gratiot in Eastpointe (just north of Detroit). Annual car cruise. a week long celebration of automotive history, tradition, memorabilia, car shows, contests and family outings leading up to officially Cruisin' Gratiot. Includes the Rockin' Blues Cruise two day blues music event and Cruisin' Gratiot Idol Contest.

June 18-20, 2010:15th Annual Arab American International Festival in Dearborn (west side of Detroit). 3-day event is a free, family-centered cultural celebration that will attract over 300,000 people from Michigan, the Midwest, and Canada. It boasts a great number of amusements, live musical acts-both local and international, 30 international food booths, coffee cup readings, henna, arts and crafts, a children's tent, artisans, Arab merchandise, a giant old-fashioned Ferris wheel, more.

June 18-19, 2010: 6th Annual Hot Blues and BBQ & Detroit Blues Challenge Kickoff in Oxford (north of Detroit). "Part of the Motor City Breakdown, a series of competitions in which winning acts advance to the next round, with the ultimate goal of sending one band from Metro Detroit to the National Blues Competition in Memphis, Tenn.". tickets $8 advance (from official website) and $10 at the gate. Children under 12 are free. After early afternoon Blues Challenge comes The Big Show.

June 18-20, 2010: 4th Annual Detroit River Daysin Downtown Detroit at the Riverfront. Detroit's largest festival, featuring activities and entertainment spanning from the new Gabriel Richard Plaza & Pavilion to the GM Plaza & Promenade and beyond, will be free to the public and will take advantage of the natural assets the Riverfront provides. Festival-goers will enjoy live musical entertainment on three stages, interactive games, exhibits, carnival elements and activities involving metro Detroit’s fishing and boating community. Live music and the annual Target Fireworks as the festival finale (formerly known as the International Freedom Festival).

June 19, 2010: 34th Annual International Tug Boat Race on the Detroit River between Detroit & Windsor. Annual. "As many as 30 tugs of all sizes race in a mad dash for the finish line. Tugs ranging in length from 45 to 140 feet compete at the same time, all muscling for the best position. Some of the larger tugs are actual working tugs with more than 2,000 horsepower, the Detroit River boils as the tugs create a huge wake."

June 23. 2010, Wednesday: 52nd Annual Target Fireworks at Hart Plaza and the riverfront in Downtown Detroit, MI. Michigan's largest fireworks display. (Formerly the GM Detroit River Days Fireworks and prior to that the International Freedom Festival Fireworks). Free to the Public. Rain date is June 24, 2009, Thursday.

June 25, 2010: JobbieNooner on Gull Island on Lake St. Clair (northeast of Detroit). Annual Mardi Gras style boats and island party. Jobbienooners are adult, 18yrs and older events. Traditionally, JobbieNooner is held on the 1st Friday of Summer, usually on Gull Island.

June 25-27, 2010: 26th Annual Michigan Challenge Balloonfest (Michigan Challenge XXIV) in Howell. One of the premier summer-time activities in Michigan with balloon launches and entertainment for the entire family.

June 25-27, 2010: Stars and Stripes Festival  in Mount Clemens (north of Detroit). Festival is FREE to the public and features a full carnival, nationally known and local music acts, art displays, fireworks, food vendors, more.

June 26, 2010: 11th Annual Cruisin' Downriver in southeast Metro Detroit. Cruise Fort Street through the cities of Lincoln Park, Riverview, Southgate, and Wyandotte. 500,000 car buffs and enthusiasts are expected.

JULY 2010

June 30 - July 4, 2010: 22nd Annual CityFest  [formerly called Comerica TasteFest] in Detroit. Annual event has lots of food, with national and local music performers.

June 30 - July 4, 2010: Westland Summer Festival in Westland, MI on the grounds of Westland City Hall (south side of Ford Road, east of Newburgh). Live entertainment every night, Vegas tent, a parade on July 1st. at 6PM, and a 3k walk on July 3rd. to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. July 7-10, 2010: 49th Wyandotte Street Art Fair in downtown Wyandotte, MI. One of Michigan’s oldest juried Art Fairs. 250 select exhibitors from over 30 states represent the finest in arts and culture.
 

July 9-11, 2010: 16th Annual Festival Epicure in Windsor, Canada. "A Celebration Of Food, Wine and Music presented by Ambassador Bridge and Detroit River Tunnel Partnership."

July 9-10, 2010: Michigan ElvisFest 2010 in Ypsilanti. Annual event. "One of The Largest ElvisFest Concerts in North America! This not a contest but a true concert with spectacular performances, from the first act to the last act, by the best professional Elvis Tribute Artists in North America."

July 9-12 2010: Gold Cup (Unlimited Hydroplane Boat Race) on Detroit River between Detroit & Windsor. Big-Time Annual event, official title: Chrysler Jeep Superstores Detroit APBA Gold Cup. Unlimited Hydroplane Boat Racing on the Detroit River includes other hydroplane classes.

 

July 10-11, 2010:  Taylor Family Festival (formerly the Meijer Taylor Summer Festival) in Taylor. Annual event. The festival will feature a carnival, concerts, the Taylor Rotary Fishing Derby, a five-kilometer run and a mud volleyball tournament.

July 14-17, 2010: The Ann Arbor Art Fairs are a group of four award-winning art fairs taking place annually in Ann Arbor, Michigan that attract over 500,000 visitors each year. The fairs take place on a Wednesday through Saturday during mid-July.

July 14-17, 2010: 51st Annual Ann Arbor Street Art Fair on the Ingalls Mall Lawn by the Burton Memorial Tower, North University, and the Diag on the Central Campus at the University of Michigan. The Fair will feature 174 juried artists, eight New Artists from local universities and colleges, the Potters Guild and an array of free art activities and performances for the whole family to enjoy.

July 14-17, 2010: 43rd Annual State Street Area Art Fair in Ann Arbor. The State Street Area Art Fair is a nationally recognized and award winning art fair that combines the talents of 325 artists with a host of merchant displays along the vibrant streets of Ann Arbor's campus area.

July 14-17, 2010: 41st Annual Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair in Ann Arbor. Annual. award-winning juried fair features ceramics, painting, jewelry, sculpture, photography, glass, wood, fiber and much more. Fairgoers can also enjoy lively street corner entertainment, artists' demonstrations, children's activities and the distinctive shops and restaurants of Ann Arbor." July 14-17, 2010: 11th Annual South University Art Fair in Ann Arbor. This is a cutting edge show, which presents only the highest quality work by 175 of the nations most prestigious artists. Look out for emerging artists who are participating in our Mentor Program. In addition there is live music, from 2:30pm to close Wed-Fri and at 12:00pm on Sat. Beer and Margueritas are available at the refreshment tent by the main stage on Church Street. Restaurants offer choices for all tastes and local retailers provide color, interest and bargains from their sidewalk displays.

July 15-18, 2010:Bluesfest International  Annual event in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

July 16-18, 2010: 28th Annual Jackson Hot Air Jubilee (Balloon Festival) in Jackson. 65-70 Hot Air Balloons, morning launches, Balloon Night Glow at Dusk - Tethered balloons put on a spectacular light show. Plus Arts and Crafts show, car show, stunt kite demonstrations, Kids' Kingdom, kiddies carnival rides, radio controlled airplanes and cars, static aircraft displays, antique military displays, live entertainment.

July 16-18, 2010: 11th Annual Quake on the Lake in Waterford. (northwest of Detroit) Annual. Inboard hydroplane boat races.

July 17-18, 2010: Thunder Over Michigan Air Show   at the Willow Run Airport in Belleville, MI. 9am - 5pm Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the gate, free for ages 15 and under. July 23, 2010: Boat Night in Port Huron Port Huron to Mackinac Island pre-race bash. The Friday night before the start of the race is called Boat Night. Thousands of people, sailors and those who wish they were, line the banks of the Black River, Port Huron to view the yachts. The parties will last until well after dawn on Saturday.

July 23-24, 2010: 13th Annual  Summer Beer Festival on Frog Island in Ypsilanti, MI.   Drink Michigan Beer!

July 23-25, 2010: Nautical Mile Merchants Association in St. Clair Shores on the Nautical Mile (between 9 Mile Road and Ten Mile Road on Jefferson Avenue).

July 24, 2010 (start date): 86th Annual Port Huron To Mackinac Island Sailing Race (Bayview Mackinac Race) "One of the greatest freshwater long distance yacht races in the World." also known as the Bayview Mackinac Races, Port Huron to Mackinac Yacht Race.

July 24, 2010: 6th Annual Telegraph Tomorrow Car Cruise Thousands of classic car buffs and spectators will celebrate the automobile as they cruise historic Telegraph Road in Taylor, Dearborn Heights and Redford Township. This cruise was formerly called "Cruizin' Telegraph."

July 26 - August 1, 2010: 2nd Annual Buy Michigan Now Festival in Northville, MI. Downtown Northville and Buy Michigan Now are proud to be hosting a week-long Michigan party. The Buy Michigan Now Festival will allow guests to rediscover Michigan as we celebrate and promote Michigan businesses and work together toward rejuvenating the state's economy. Buy Michigan Now and Downtown Northville are collaborating in order to provide a fun, lively, positive experience that also champions the many great products and services that Michigan has to offer.

July 29-31, 2010: 29th Annual Sterlingfest Art and Jazz Fair  in Sterling Heights (just north of Detroit). at the corner of Dodge Park and Utica roads, Sterlingfest mixes the tradition of an arts & crafts fair with a jazz and blues stage. Sterlingfest includes continuous entertainment throughout the day, nightly concerts, a refreshment tent, food from local restaurants, a family midway, Kidzfest Tent, and the works of juried artisans.

July 31 - August 1, 2010:  15th Annual Ribs and Soul Festival  at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit. The Ribs ‘n’ Soul Festival boasts the best ribs this side of the Mississippi. On Sunday, chefs from around the country will smoke, grill and season ribs to perfection during the tasty Rib Cook Off.

AUGUST 2010

August 6-8, 2010: Great Lakes Folk Festival in East Lansing. Annual FREE festival "showcases the traditional cultural treasures of the nation's Upper Midwest and a sampling of the best of traditional artists from around the country and the world, encourages cross-cultural understanding of our diverse society through the presentation of musicians, dancers, cooks, storytellers and craftspeople. includes 100 musicians or dancers in groups, five performance stages."

August 6-8, 2010: 19th Annual Milford Memories Summer Festival in Milford. Juried Art show with over 260 artists and crafters from across the United States and Canada displaying and selling their work. Beer Tent, Live Entertainment, Kid Central Activity Area, Cold Butt Euchre Tournament, Civil War Encampment, Center Street Gazebo Entertainment, Mill Pond Gazebo Entertainment, Milford Memories 5K Run, Remote Control Car Races, Blind Canoe Race, Teen Dance, Shuttle Bus Service, lots of Food.

August 8, 2010: 8th Annual Clinton Township Gratiot Cruise 12:00 - 6:00 p.m. The cruise route is 14 Mile Road to Wellington Crescent in Clinton Township, MI.

  August 13-15, 2010: 28th Annual African World Festival in Downtown Detroit. Annual event held the third weekend of August at Hart Plaza. August 14, 2010: 16th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise from Detroit's north border to Pontiac. The World's Biggest, Best and Most Famous Car Cruise. Held Annually every third Saturday in August on Woodward Ave and goes through several cities just north of Detroit. September 3-6, 2010: 30th Annual Hamtramck Labor Day Festival on Jos Campau between Caniff and Carpenter in Hamtramck, MI. Throughout the years, visiting historic Hamtramck, Michigan has become a tradition for many during Labor Day weekend. The Hamtramck Labor Day Festival has welcomed more than 500,000 guests yearly as it continually provides the attractions many have come to anticipate during the holiday weekend, including live music, samplings of ethnic food, cultural dancers, carnival rides, and children's activities. While keeping the traditions alive, the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival anticipates incorporating new features this year.

September 3-6, 2010: 13th Annual Arts, Beats & Eats Festival of Hope in Pontiac. Oakland County's Summer Festival. "approximately 1.3 million visitors, 200 musical acts on 8 stages, over 150 artists, more than 50 restaurants." held every Labor Day Weekend. There is a $2.00 gate fee per person.

September 10-12, 2010: 45th Annual Art & Apples Festival in Rochester (north of Detroit). Over 100,000 attend The National City Art & Apples Festival which is Michigan's second largest juried fine arts festival and includes over 250 fine art exhibitors, a variety of food, live entertainment, and free kids art activities. It's held annually on the weekend following Labor Day in the scenic 30-acre Rochester Park and serves as a principle fundraiser for Paint Creek Center for the Arts (PCCA), a non-profit art center.

 September 11, 2010: 33rd Annual Dally in the Alley in the Cass Corridor in Detroit. "One of the only non-corporate sponsored community festivals in the United States". arts, music & food. Rain date Sept. 12.

September 17-19, 2010: 22nd Annual Northville Victorian Festival in Northville (a little northwest of Detroit). "Streets will be closed to automobile traffic as townspeople, artists, and business owners turn back the clock and transform themselves into a Victorian Village complete with period costumes, parade, free trackless train and horse and carriage rides, storytellers, magicians, musical entertainment, demonstrations."

  October 3, 2010: 15th Annual Great Lakes Regional Chili Cookoff and Harley Davison Motorcycle Show in Plymouth (west of Detroit). Annual event has streets packed with people. Chili Cook-Off Competition, Restaurant Chili Challenge, Bike Show, Chili Ride, Live Entertainment, Salsa Competition, Children's Activities, proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity.

 November 6, 2010: 5th Annual Veteran's Day Parade In Downtown Detroit. The parade will begin at noon, at Woodward and Temple, and will travel south to Cadillac Square.

 November 6-7, 2010: 38th Annual All Depression Era Glass Show & Sale at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Avenue @ Greenfield in Dearborn, MI. Presented by the Michigan Depression Glass Society. Early 1900s through 1960s American Made glassware including Fire King, Heisey, Fostoria, Cambridge, Duncan, Pattern and Unmarked Fenton, plus lots of Depression Glass. Glass repair and food available. Donation: $5.00.

 

November 18, 2010 - January 1, 2011: Wayne County LightFest

        

At Hines Park. No nighttime spectacle can compare to Wayne County LightFest. With 4 1/2 miles of giant animated displays and nearly a million lights along Hines Drive, it's the Midwest's largest Holiday Light Show. Drive through 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily, November 19 - January 1 [closed Christmas Day]. Enter at Hines Drive and Merriman, 2 1/2 miles south of I-96 in Westland.  November 19, 2010: Annual Lighting of Detroit's Holiday Tree Christmas carols, hot chocolate, figure skaters and the annual lighting of the holiday tree at Detroit's Campus Martius Park.

 November 21-28, 2010: Annual Festival of Trees at the Allen Park Municipal Auditorium, 16870 Southfield Road, Allen Park, MI. Festival of Trees is a public display of professionally designed holiday trees, locally designed 2’ trees, individually designed centerpieces, a festive gift shop, and more. Festival of Trees is one of the largest annual special event fundraisers benefiting Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Since its inception in 1985, this volunteer-driven effort has attracted visitors from all over Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, New York and Canada.

November 25, 2010: 84th Annual Detroit's Thanksgiving Dayin Downtown Detroit. The Parade steps-off at Woodward Avenue and Mack on in downtown Detroit and ends at Woodward Avenue and Congress. Detroiter's have enjoyed the rich tradition of going downtown to celebrate Thanksgiving for generations. The route will honor the Thanksgiving Day tradition that began more than 80 years ago, while providing parade-goers the opportunity to enjoy the transformation of our great city. This year’s Parade will have crowd favorites and new surprises with more than 75 Parade units including floats, balloons, award-winning marching bands, clowns, specialty acts, celebrities, and The Parade Company’s own Distinguished Clown Corps. DECEMBER 2010

December 4, 2010: 38th Annual Noel Night in Midtown Detroit. Over 20 institutions, including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the New Detroit Science Center, and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History open their doors to the public free of charge during this Cultural Center-wide holiday "open house." Activities include horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday shopping, family craft activities and performances by over 70 area music and dance groups. The evening's festivities culminate with a community sing-along on Woodward Avenue led by the Salvation Army Band.

December 5, 2010: Rochester Christmas Parade in downtown Rochester, MI. The parade starts at 1:45 p.m., and includes dignitaries, bands, children’s group, community organizations and local businesses. The parade is also broadcast live on WXYZ-TV Channel 7.

November 18, 2010 - January 1, 2011: Wayne County LightFest
