Large grass fires keep area fire departments busy.

The end of April into the first week of May took a toll on area firefighters. Local fire
departments responded to several very large grass fires with at least five of them going
to 2 & 3 alarms. The above photos are of a fire in Round Lake's fire district. Round
Lake received help from Fox Lake, Grayslake and Wauconda fire departments. The
last photo was taken at a huge brush fire that involved a tree removal business that
went to three alarms.

The Lake Villa Fire Department was called to a possible house explosion and arrived
to find what was left of a home fully involved. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire
which was also hampered by falling snow and cold temps. Lake Villa was assisted by
Antioch with a tanker.
