Condo fire gets a head start before Round Lake FD is called.
The Round Lake Fire Department received a call for a structure fire at around 4am and the first
unit to arrive pulled up to a fully involved two story, four unit condo fire with fire through the
roof. Round Lake Engine/Squad 2651 was first to arrive and quickly called for a box alarm and
pulled a line but was quickly pushed back by the intense heat. Round Lakes chief arrived next
and raised the alarm level. Round Lake Engine 2622, 2623, Tower 2630 and Grayslake Engine
2715 arrived and there crews went to work pumping water onto the complex, which was built
in a very wooded area, making it difficult to run hoses to the condo and set up the truck
operations.. Once the Tower Company was set up and flowing water, it wasn't long before the
fire was under control. The condo unit involved was a total loss but the other three units
escaped damage due to the quick work from firefighters. The resident of the unit was found
deceased under the collapsed second floor. Apparatus from surronding departments
responded to the scene and stood by at Round Lakes stations.
