Grayslake FD goes to extra alarms at farm house fire.
An early evening house fire in the outskirts of the Grayslake Fire Protection District turned
into an extra alarm fire as crews were forced out of the old farm house by smoke and heat.
This part of Grayslake's district is an automatic response area for the Round Lake,
Wauconda and Fox Lake fire departments which all responded with equipment. The first
arriving Grayslake Engine Company found heavy fire and smoke coming from the first floor
but quickly spread into the 2nd floor and into the walls. Crews from Grayslake and Round
Lake were able to knock down the first floor fire but with high winds and the fire in the walls
and attic it became to dangerous to continue an interior attack. A Fox Lake crew
attempted to flow water into the attack from an outside wall but the high winds made it to
dangerous. With a box alarm for Tankers already activated, a Squad Company (manpower)
box was pulled to assist firefighters already on the scene in the very cold conditions.
