Round Lake Beach, IL Apartment Fire

The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District was called to a Structure Fire at 6:00am on
Easter Morning. Dispatched with the first alarm was Round Lake FD with a General Alarm stations 1 & 2 and the Grayslake FD with an Engine (automatic response area). Round Lake Beach Police officers were first to arrive on the scene to find fire & smoke showing and two badly burned men rolling around in the street, still smoking.
Round Lake Engine 2622 (responding from Station 2 which is 4 blocks from the fire scene) was
the first fire apparatus to arrive and reported heavy fire blowing from the front entrance & stairway of the 3 story brick apartment complex and reported unkown number of burn victims. Second to arrive was the Deputy Chief who took command and quickly called in a Quad 2 Box Alarm, which dispatched the following:
-Fox Lake FD to the scene with a Squad.
-Lake Villa FD to the scene with an Engine.
-Antioch FD change of quarters, station 2 with an ALS Ambulance & Rehab Unit to the scene.
-Wauconda FD change of quarters, station 1 with an Engine.
The Deputy Chief then notified stations 1 & 2 to roll 3 ALS Ambulances to the scene. A Flight for
Life Helicopter was also called with a second chopper being dispatched a few minutes later. |

RLFD Engine 2623 arrived and quickly made a hydrant and pulled a second hose line and
started search & rescue, being joined by the crew from GLFD Engine 2721. RLFD Ambulance 2644 arrived and started treating the burn victims, finding 2 men with severe burns over 65% of there bodies. RLFD Tower 2630 set up truck company operations and the crews quickly knocked down the main fire and all residents were acounted for. RLFD 2645 also arrived to treat the burn victims. |

RLFD Pumper/Squad 2651 was redirected from the fire scene to set up a landing zone for the
incoming Flight for Life Helicopters. Round Lake Paramedics prepared the patients at the fire scene and transported them a short distance to the landing zone. |

Quick response and action from the Round Lake Fire Department kept this fire from being a very
deadly Easter Morning. |
