I was born and raised in South Florida (April 21, 1965) and currently reside in South Miami. I earned an M.S. in Library and Information Science from Florida State University (1988) and an M.A. in English from the University of Miami (1996). I followed my father into a library career, unable to help noticing that it would provide a useful day job for a writing career as well.

I began working in the Knowledge Access Management Division of the University of Miami's Otto G. Richter Library as an undergraduate student in 1983, and was hired as faculty in 1989. Tenured in 1995. How many years is that...? I play with information all day long.

I create knowledge. It's the coolest job in the world.
