Prominent Filipino Community leader, Roland Casamina is probably known as the man behind the FILCOM Center. As President of the FILCOM Center, He is charged with a formidable task in bringing into reality a long time dream among Filipinos- to build a Filipino Community center in Hawaii.

Roland Casamina headed the FILCOM Center Inc, a non-profit organization since 1993 and alongside with many committed individuals, they have been working on this FILCOM Project for free donating their time and money for the realization of this dream! Roland Casamina donated some amount of his own money to start this project.

A system has been developed in terms of Fundraising activities to reach the $13 million goal towards the building of this project. Total pledges and gifts, including the 2-acre land as of June, 1999 is now totalling $7.1 million. Vince Bagoyo, Jerremy Harris, and Nestor Garcia were instrumental in acquiring the donated 2-acres of land from AMFAC which is worth $3 million.

In kind materials and services have been also pledged. Engineer Lito Alcantara, President of Group Builders Inc, will donate drywalling services estimated at $300,000.00.

Wimberly Allison Tong and Goo, an Architecture firm headed by Eugene Watanabe which employs about 10 Filipino architects will donate its services in designing the center estimated at $280,000.00.





FilCom Update & Milestones


1991 The Filipino Community Center is initiated as
a project by the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii
during Lito Alcantara's tenure as a president. Roland
Casamina, a member of the FCCH board of directors, starts planning for the project.
1993 FilCom Center becomes an independent entity.
1994 FilCom Center becomes an IRS 501 (c) (3)
organization.
Aug. '94 Concepts of FilCom Center is unveiled at
kick-off events.
May '98 AMFAC transfers 2-acre parcel of land toFilCom Center
at deed-signing ceremony during AT&T Filipino
Fiesta.
July '98 Community participates in workday to install fence
and clean up FilCom site.
Mar. '99 Capital Campaign training is held for community
relations team.
Apr. '99 FilCom Center opens office at Umi Street.
May '99 More than $100,000.00 is pledged during AT&T
Filipino Fiesta at Kapiolani Park, Waikiki.
May '99 Board of Governors is introduced to FilCom Center.
Sept. '99 FILCOM Fundraising Video launching.
Nov. '99 FilCom Kick-off rally!
2000 Groundbreaking
2001 Construction is completed.
