The following statement is issued by Francis Mackey,
Chairperson 32 County Sovereignty Movement:

"The foul murder of west Belfast Republican, Joe O'Connor, by members of the Provisional movement, has sent shock waves through the republican family.

The people responsible for Mr. O'Connor's murder have been clearly identified by family members and local people as members of the Provisional
movement.

The sinister attempts of a cover-up by Sinn Fein Spin-doctors, to divert and turn Republicans who are opposed to the Stormont Deal sell-out, against
each other, has been exposed as "agent provocateur" tactics.

The fact that the provisional movement has succumbed to British dictate is not lost on the people of west Belfast.

Many questions arise as to why, at this particular time, the Provisional leadership chose to sanction such a dastardly act.

We call upon Gerry Adams, MP, to explain to the people of west Belfast, how the murder of a Republican - whose family has given a lifetime of service
to the Republican cause - is part of a "stepping stone" strategy to a UnitedIreland.

This is an extremely volatile time and we stress to all Republicans to remain calm and vigilant and not be drawn into what is clearly a British inspired trap.

The feud mentality serves no purpose in advancing the Republican agenda.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of the late Joe O'Connor."

The following statement is issued by Francis Mackey,
Chairperson 32 County Sovereignty Movement:

" The disclaimer statement issued by the Provos, in the wake of mounting pressure from local people, following the vile murder of Joseph O'Connor,
can clearly be seen as nothing other than a damage limitation exercise pitched to the wider base.

This statement has only come about because of the shock and revulsion by the Nationalist people in West Belfast, who know that it was members of the
Provisional movement who carried out this foul deed.

The question remains, why was an innocent Republican gunned down outside his mother's door, and if, as the statement would suggest, that Rogue
Provisional elements are now running amuck in west Belfast, why has Sinn Fein refused to condemn and call for their disbandment?"
