winning the title of a beauty queen came as a pleasant surprise. Soon
after the contest she married and has a new horoscopic name - Nandini
Thackersey. Some years later she encouraged her sister Suchita to
enter the contest. Today she leads a happy life looking after her
sister's children.

Pamela Singh

The bone structure caught every ones eye even then. Our Miss India'
82, however went on to attract more notoriety than fame. Now she's
a serious photo-journalist and keeps as low a profile as someone with
her looks can.

Rekha Hande

She was truly a beauty queen with merits to prove it. Winner of Miss
Garden City, Spring Queen, Ponds Queen, May Queen, Aero Princess,
Giants Queen and Eve's Weekly first runner-up. It did not come as
a big surprise to her when she won the Miss India Pageant. However,
Rekha did not pursue this glamorous field. She is married to a doctor
in the US and has two sons. She is also involved in the work of a
number of charity organisations.

Juhi Chawla

She went on to become a well- known model and probably the most successful
model-turned-actress of all (till now). She proved that mannequins
could act (well) too. She got married to millionnaire Jay Mehta in
1996 but kept it a closely guarded secret. The enterprising lady has
now started a film production company with actor Shah Rukh Khan and
director Aziz Mirza as partners.

Sonu Walia

A psychology graduate and a serious student of journalism, Sonu Walia
took up modeling before she entered the Ms India contest. After winning
the title, she embarked on a career in film acting and won the best
supporting actress award in her very first film .

Mehr Jessia

Perhaps one of the most popular models in India, Mehr took up modeling
only after winning the contest. Today she manages a successful model
management agency in partnership with Vijay Mallaya, India's liquor
baron. She retired from modeling, married Arjun Ramphal, a top model
himself, and is happy consulting young aspirants about the glitterati
world.

Priyadarshini Pradhan

If it had not been winning the title at the contest, Priyadarshini
would have been a talented architect. However, she chose modeling
over architecture. She took a sabbatical and settled in Kuwait. In
1996 she was offered to do a fashion show by Hemant Trivedi and offers
haven't stopped since then.

Dolly Minhas

Winning the contest wasa matter of chance for this light-eyed beauty
from a small town of Chandigarh. Soon after winning the contest she
opted for acting career. Today she acts in Kannada movies and TV serials.

Suzanne Sablok

She created ripples at the Miss Universe contest by being the only
contestant who had not entered the swimsuit round. She even reached
the semi- finals of the contest. After the pageant she took up modeling.
At the peak of her career, she gave it up for marital bliss.
