by winning the title in 1971. And today she still shines brightly.
Presently living in London, she is the director of a multinational
company.

Roopa Satyan

Perhaps the only one for whom the going has not been good. Life hasn't
been a bed of roses for one time title holder Roopa Satyan. After
a short stint with British Airways she tied the knots hoping to lead
a blissful married life. Unfortunately, Roopa is on the verge of a
bitter divorce.

Farzana Habib
Miss
India 1973
Her sister's coaxing tempted young Farzana to fill up the Femina Miss
India application in 1973. Little did she know it would change her
life. Not only did Farzana become Miss India 1973, but also came up
to be the fifth runner up! She carried on from Greece to the US where
she joined a school for sculpting.
Today she is married to a lawyer and has two children.

Shailini Dholakia

India 1974
Hers is a story that could move even Charles Dickens. Left to support
herself without parental help, Shailini entered the pageant as it
would bring modeling offers that she desperately needed to make the
the two ends meet. Though she had movie offers from Sunil Dutt, she
opted for a modest job of a receptionist at the Taj Intercontinental,
which she soon lost on account of poor health. She tried her hand
at everything from joining a music band to creating small gems. Finally
she started creating her range of beauty products which she successfully
exported. Today Shailini is the Director of four companies and lives
in California. She is also an ordained Reiki Master.

Meenakshi Kurpad
Miss
India 1975
Meenakshi maintained a low profile after she won the crown and hence,
very little is known about her .

Naina Balsaver
Miss
India 1976
The only Miss India who had to withdraw from the Miss World pageant
due to India's protest against apartheid. She married politician Akbar
Ahmed and even contested in the Indian parliamentary elections. Even
though she lost the elections it did not sap her energy. She is currently
busy with her dream project - a wildlife reserve!

Nalini Vishwanathan
Miss
India 1977
She created a history by refusing to participate at the Miss Universe
pageant. Her father would not allow his daughter to walk down the
ramps in swimsuit. Nalini's decision to refuse made Femina incorporate
a new clause in the entry which stated that if the winner could not
represent her country for any personal reason, she would have to surrender
her gifts and crowns. Soon after the contest, Nalini had an arranged
marriage. Unfortunately it did not last for long. She recently remarried
and lives in Delhi. She conducts aerobic classes at home.

Alamjeet Chauhan

Alamjeet won the best national award at the Miss Universe. Presently,
she is a practising supreme court lawyer.

Swaroop Sampat

She starred in the eighties sitcom 'Yeh joh hai jindagi' which launched
her career as an actress. Today she leads a happy married life with
Bollywood 'baddie' Paresh Rawal.

Sangeeta Bijlani

India 1980
A name to reckon with on the ramp, Sangeeta switched to acting
in Hindi films before she married the famous cricketer, Mohammed Azharuddin.
Now the beautiful lady is all set to become an entrepreneur. She and
Azhar have launched their own production company which will produce
television serials and Sangeeta will once again appear on the silver
screen.
