AlienBreed3D Special Edition This second version (or special edition) of a tune inspired by the Amiga game Alienbreed3D, and a lot of Aliens (tm) ! I think this (along with the Uruk-Hai) was one of my last Protracker mods, and caused much frustration due to the limitations of the format, in this particular case the lack of samples (31) Due to the amount of effects I wanted in the mod, I had to pile several samples into one sample space, and triggering the various bits by adjusting the start address to the bit that I wanted.... :P The basic driving-force behind the mod is the pulsing/throbbing bass, which I nicked from John Carpenters The Fog, and it really suited the atmosphere of the piece. The mod was also supposed to be my first (deliberate!) track to feature Dolby-ProLogic Surround (tm) (!) but due to the method to do that, became impossible as I started piling in the samples. But the "groundwork" for the effect is there, in the last few mins of the track, which are just really the bass, and my own cobbled together "scene" of a last-stand against the alien attack... I later went on to try and expand this piece using FastTracker, and later still, Octamed with my synth, but got bored. One last thing, the original version of the mod (not SE) was quite shorter and did not feature the extended effects-scene at the end, and had a little less *body*. In this version, I eventually mixed about 4 sounds to get the opening sound. Paul 31/3/00
