1. Precocious Talent
Kim is one of those rare people who knows, even from earliest childhood, exactly what they want to be.
Kim was 3 years old when she began to sing and record your compositions on her own record player. When she was 5, she played them on piano. Kim Carnes just knew she was going to be a singer. At the time, her favorite shows was "The
Connie And Jack Reagan Show", which she watched every afternoon. It turned out that her parents went to a party at the home of the show's producer. When they came home, Kim asked them, "Did you tell him you had a little girl who wanted to sing on the show?" . Of course they said they hadn't. She was crushed, so they called him and the producer said, "Tell her to come on down and sing for us." So she did. That was her performing debut, on that show. As she recall, she sang "Buttons And Bows".
It wasn't much of a beginning, but it was a start. As a small child, Kim learned to play piano, an no sooner had she started writting than she began to put songs together. Kim is one of those rare people who knows, even from earliest childhood, exactly what they want to be.
"I never had any other thought in my mind. I was gonna write songs, I was gonna be a star and a singer and I never thought of doing anything else." - she confessed to Steve
Wosahla in a 1981 interview.
