PART 1/??: THE FIRST NIGHT


One hour after the students left on the last day of school in year 2001 in

Sunnydale a group of movers put a machine in place in the High School library. Giles was

there and noticed it was on top of the very Hellmouth itself. He asked the movers and

technicians about it. All they knew is that they were given specific instructions to carry out. They

completed their task and they left. There was now a cable running to a truck outside in the

parking lot.

Shortly after sundown Angel arrived and approached the machine. He saw that the

instructions had been carried out to the letter. He was pleased.

Giles, who had been watching Angel examine the machine, asked, "What do you know of this machine?"

Angel answered, "It's mine."

He turned it on. It activated with a low whirl, pumping liquid out of a place that

those who do not know of the existence of the Hellmouth would think was nowhere!

Giles asked "What is this about?"

"It is about getting one of the three components of Buffy’s twenty-second

birthday present. I hope she does not mind that one of the components is stolen from Hell! In any

case I know she is not going to mind the industrial by-products," answered Angel. "The other two components come from Chester, England and Romania. You

have four Watchers in each place there. They will tell when the other components are on

the way."

Giles asked, "What are you getting for her?"

"I just told you where it comes from! Can't you guess?" Angel replied mysteriously. "She would have asked for this for her birthday had she had any idea it could possibly exist."

That night, in the graveyard, Buffy was out hunting Vampires. As suddenly as ever

they came out their graves. Yet they evaporated before Buffy could get a stake into them. She

was stunned.

A soon as possible she told Giles, "I have slain many Vampires but none ever evaporated before I slew them."

Angel pointed to his machine and said, "That happened because of the industrial

bi-products of this device. That is why I am wearing this chestplate for protection. Within one

hour the entire vampire population of Sunnydale above ground will be destroyed! By

tomorrow the underground will be destroyed or doomed. Hopefully it will divert the vampires

from what is really happening!"

"What does that mean?" asked Buffy, puzzled.

Angel answered, "I am expecting a major demon attack in southside Sunnydale in ten

minutes."

Buffy went downtown. When she returned, Oz was with her and she was angry! She

asked Angel, "Are you manipulating every body here? Including me?"

Angel smiled. "Yes", he said, "But what makes you say that?"

She pointed to Oz. "He took a picture of me just as the demon evaporated!"

"Yes...I hired him to do that! Partly because I wanted a picture of your face.

Partly because I wanted to show you I knew what I was doing."

Oz asked, "What IS he doing?"

"We do not know! But unquestionably he does," answered Giles.

END NIGHT ONE

PART TWO: THE SECOND NIGHT

Angel met Buffy at her former high school shortly after sundown. He said, "Would you like to accompany me to my project?"

Buffy smiled and nodded. She asked, "Do you know when my birthday is?"

Angel answered, "Yes, in December. And yet I am doing this for you in the summer. Your

watchers put you up to asking why I am doing this now. Am I correct?"

Still smiling, Buffy nodded. Meanwhile, Giles received a call from the Watchers

Council. "They do not know what you are doing," Giles told Angel.

Angel explained to Buffy, "I am doing this for three purposes. First, I am getting you a birthday present. The other two purposes compel me to prepare your present now.

I think it unwise to tell you more! You might get your hopes up and I might fail. Then

my other two purposes are lost and I have to give you a normal present. If I tell you those

purposes, you, smart girl, will figure out what I am up to. But I am getting you a present. Whether I tell you

my other two purposes shall be decided by whether I fail or succeed."

Buffy said, "You told Oz that when you recruited him. But you both overlooked

something. I am the Slayer. I have to know what is going on at the Hellmouth!"

Angel asked, "Has Anyanka tried to stop me yet?"

Giles said, "She tried in the late afternoon. Oz carried out your instructions: he

poured each of these canisters into that devise in the order you prescribed. It stopped. He

photographed the whole thing and the police took Anyanka away on the charge of destruction of

property."

Angel asks, "Have the Vampires all over the world gotten sick yet?"

Giles looked shocked. He pointed to the apparatus and asked, "Is that sickness coming from this device?

Angel replied, "Yes! It is also supposed to slay all of the world's vampires who are less than forty eight hours old."

Giles said, "It is working! But it also destroyed vampires that were over one thousand years old!"

Angel shouted with joy. "It works better than I thought it would!" Then he said, "The disease is slow, but should be fatal to nearly all Vampires in the

world! All we have to do then is lure unsuspecting Vampires to Sunnydale before the

pollutant wears off. Then the Vampire population shall be reduced to a single digit number."

Giles said, "Do you mean zero?"

Angel answered, "I would consider less than ten a success!"

Then he said, "Have the Watchers figured out what meant when I spoke of Chester, England and Romania?"

Giles said, "No! What is in those places?" Then he realized the answer to his own question. " Oh my God!"

Buffy then came in, repeating what they had said about the dying vampires.

Giles said, "Angel's birthday gift is your retirement! A chance at a normal

life!"

"If it works!" Angel added. "I am not sure it will! But if it does, with your grades you can transfer to a

an even better college!"

"You mean one which will get employers eating out of my hand?" smiled Buffy.

Then suddenly a voice boomed into the library: "IT HAS WORKED PERFECTLY. ONLY ONE

SOULESS VAMPIRE IS UNAFFECTED. . SHE IS SOPHIE THE ONE YOU KNEW

AND ONCE LOVED! I NOW TURN YOU INTO A SLAYER!"

A bolt of lightning shot through the building striking Angel.

"YOU ARE NOW HUMAN!" the voice boomed. "FURTHERMORE YOU ARE A MALE

SLAYER. YOU ARE MEANT TO MARRY BUFFY WHEN SHE IS 25 AND HAVE SLAYER

CHILDREN!"

Everyone but Buffy asked Angel, "Who was that?"

Buffy asked at the same time, "Are you all right?"

Angel said, "If that was Who I think it was, I should now be able to hold a cross without

being burned!"

He took Giles' cross in his hand -- it didn't burn him. Angel said "Thank you dear God!"

God thundered again "YOU ARE MOST WELCOME. YOU HAVE SAVED THE WORLD SO LET ME BE THE FIRST TO CONGRATULATE YOU! EVERY ATTEMPT MADE BY THE

GYPSIES WHO AFFLICTED YOU TO AVENGE THEIR DAUGHTER WILL BE THWARTED. BUT FROM TIME TO TIME

OTHER EVILS WILL TOUCH BUFFY’S LIFE AND YOURS. THEREFORE, YOU MUST REVERT TO VAMPIRE FORM ONCE A WEEK FOR ONE NIGHT. YOU HAVE A DESTINY

TO MEET CENTURIES FROM NOW. NOW DISPENCE WITH THE DISGUSTING BAIT!

"YOU, OZ. BY CARRING OUT ANGEL'S INSTRUCTION HAVE SLAIN EVERY MAJOR DEMON EXCEPT SATAN IN HELL.

YOU SLEW HALF OF THE MEDIUM-STRENGTH DEMONS. YOU HAVE THUS STARTED A REBELLION IN HELL.

A second lightning bolt struck Oz.

"YOU ARE WEREWOLF NO MORE. ALL YOU HAVE LEFT FROM THAT CURSE IS THE WOLF'S SENSE OF

SMELL"

Oz, Angel and Buffy rejoiced. The devise which switched off after Oz poured the buckets remained

undisturbed while Giles telephoned the counsel and told them Council what just happened.

END NIGHT TWO

PART THREE: THE

AFTERNOON BETWEEN NIGHT TWO AND THREE

Buffy came to the library smiling! She has not been in such a mood since just before

before Angel lost his soul after making love to her! She told Giles, "He can do it! He can be happy

without losing his soul!"

Giles asked warily, "You have confirmed that?"

Buffy answered, "We used birth control to do it! But we did it!"

Giles said, "Well do not use psychic force to get your revenge! I think you will

get it from Travers without it!"

Quentin Travers arrived and immediately got to the point. "Your beau has ruined the

Cruciamentum for your Brazilian sister!"

Buffy asked "How did he do that!"

Travers answered, "The Vampire bait was too weak to do anything! He

could hardly move. My grandmother could have beaten him! Fortunately we realized this

before we took away her powers! Now we need the antidote to cure the vampire or she cannot be

tested!"

Buffy said, "I will ask Angel to NOT accommodate you!"

Travers said, "I take you are still upset over your Cruciamentum. That is not so

loyal of you!"

Giles told him, "The war may be over!"

"It is over and now we have no Vampire to carry on our traditions!," said the exasperated Quentin Travers. "Even as we

speak governments are opening boxes finding what they think are maniacs hitching a ride

in the mail! But they are vampires who are too weak to resist. They get hauled into the sunlight and

disintegrate. Their number is one hundred more than our estimate of their strength. It is

over!" Travers said.

Giles said, "Then why put the girl through such a thing!"

And so an impotent argument ensued! Buffy laughed at Quentin Travers as though it was a performance

for her amusement!

PART FOUR

THE THIRD NIGHT

"Would like to know what I am going to do next?" Angel asked Buffy. All of the

Slayerettes, including Oz, Xander, Willow, and Cordelia, were present and listening.

"Love to," said Buffy adoringly.

"You will have a stab at Satan himself!" asked Angel.

"Wait a minute" interrupted Giles. "Do you not think you should quit while you are ahead?"

"You want to pass up a chance to hurt Satan?" asked Angel.

"You have hastened and expanded the Hiatus. You have slain every other

Vampire except Sophie. Is that not enough?" asked Giles.

"Wait -- what is the Hiatus?" asked Xander.

"It is a time when only by consent of the transformed may a Vampire turn a human

into a Vampire! Further only a five hundred year old Vampire can do the

turning! Sophie was only two hundred when she made love it to me!" answered Angel.

Giles cut Xander off and said, "It was supposed to start five years from now! But

our monitoring stations at Chester,England and Romania have reported the most strange

reading ever since that was activated. But we did not put two and two together until it was clear that

Angel was going to cause the Hiatus to start now. Furthermore it will last a century."

Angel said, "That is what sickened every Vampire who tried to turn a human into a

Vampirek! So Sophia is now alone against two slayers and a pollutant! If she comes

she will be slain. I think she knows it. We are not going to have to worry about her until after

Buffy is old and grey!" he smiled.

"Sophie is going to kill people until then. But Buffy will not know where. So she will

not be to blame."

Buffy exclaimed "I would love to take stab at Satan!"

Angel said "Get your stakes ready!"

She produced a Stake in each hand. He pushed a button on his magic machine;

black smoke and the stench of brimstone arose suddenly!

The gang was gasping, sick as a dog, until Satan appeared and stumbled to the ground! His Satanic

Majesty was unable to move! Buffy staked him and he vanished!

God thundered, "SATAN CANNOT DIE AS LONG AS THERE IS EVIL IN THE

WORLD. BUT YOU HAVE WOUNDED HIM. IT WILL TAKE FIFTY YEARS TO

RECOVER. HE WILL HAVE TO REBUILD HELL. IT WILL BE TORN BY A FIVE

SIDED CIVIL WAR. YOU HAVE DONE ENOUGH. THAT DEVICE HAS SERVED

ITS PURPOSE. UNTIL EVIL SHALL ONCE AGAIN VISIT BUFFY’S LIFE, THIS STORY IS OVER!


THE END

I Anthony Knight would like the answer to three questions. Please use Buffy the

The first question: If you do not like it I would like to know why! Being human
I would prefer a favorable response. But I would settle for any decent comment.
The second question: Would you like the Series finale to be similar? I would like a
happy ending! But I have left a loose end have I not? Angel now has the power to change
at will form Slayer to Vampire and back as often as he likes. But he can only become a
vampire by night!
The last pargraph was written in the same spirit as several postings:If there is one
thing I hate more than a bad story it is good unconcluded story! I nominate this as a
conclusion to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
In addition I would like to start a discusion:Was Angel of this Fanfic a Hero or a
butcher? Was this justification for Genocide?
Also was it a mistake not to reveal here that Angel was bestselling author? Not of
Vampire books! Instead he was inspired by his life as Bum!
