MISTRANSLATIONS IN "THE NEW WORLD TRANSLATION" BY RYAN HICKS © 1999-2001 Ryan Hicks |
The New World Translation is the translation of the Bible made especially for the "Jehovah's Witnesses." Just like modern apostate and false Christianity has the New International Version and MANY other versions to support its teachings that cannot be supported by the Bible, the King James Bible, or the Greek and Hebrew manuscripts, so do the "Jehovah's Witnesses." The "Jehovah's witnessess," following the pattern set before them by the apostate Protestant Churches and wholly apostate Roman Catholic Churches, made a translation to fit their false doctrines and theories.
Below is a short comparison between what the Bible says (which the legitimate manuscripts all agree) and what the Jehovah's False Witnesses pretend "Bible" says. Do note that the Jehovah Witness' Bible is not a translation, rather it is a paraphrase. It is doubtful much translating actually occured in this claimed New World Translation.
| THE BIBLE | THE NEW WORLD TRANSLATION | EXPLANATION |
| And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (Gen. 1:2) | Now the earth proved to be formless and waste and there was darkness upon the surface of [the] watery deep; and God's active force was moving to and fro over the surface of the waters. | This is a horrible trashing of the Hebrew. First off, I have noted that the Hebrew word translated was in the King James Bible here almost always means "to become" or "became." IT NEVER MEANS "proved to be" in verses like this. As a matter of fact, in the first two chapters of Genesis alone, I noted in my studies that it ALWAYS, as in every single time, is "was" in the sense of "to become" or "became." Secondly, the Spirit of God is made into God's active force by this horrible paraphrase. The Jehovah's Witnesses cannot keep their hands off the verses that destroy their false doctrines. |
| And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. (Ex. 3:14) | At this God said to Moses: "I SHALL PROVE TO BE WHAT I PROVE TO BE." And he added: "This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, 'I SHALL PROVE TO BE has sent me to YOU.'" | The Jehovah's Witness paraphrase goes against the Hebrew and was done in order to make it impossible for people to put 1 and 1 together, i.e. God being the I AM and Jesus saying He is the I AM (John 8:58). Thus, Jesus is clearly God Almighty, but they have perverted both of these verses to make people disbelieve the Bible's plain teaching on the deity of Christ. |
| Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. (Is. 43:10) | "YOU are my witnesses," is the utterance of Jehovah, "even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that YOU may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none. | The Jehovah's Witnesses perverting of this verse by paraphrasing "neither shall there be after me" into "and after me there continued to be none" is purposeful. The intent is to get the idea off of the truth that there has always been God and will never be another, not even in a lesser degree. They make Jesus into a lesser god (See their perverting of John 1:1) and thus cannot have this verse teaching that there will never be another God. |
| But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. (Micah 5:2) | "And you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, the one too little to get to be among the thousands of Judah, from you there will come out to me the one who is to become ruler in Israel, whose origin is from early times, from the days of time indefinite. (Micah 5:2) | Here the Jehovah's Witnesses try to ascribe origin to this prophecy of the Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 2:5-6) and twist everlasting into "the days of time indefinite." This is a horrible perversion of the Hebrew and is only done to further their unprovable doctrine that Christ was not God like the Bible says He was, is, and always will be. |
| And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. (Mt. 25:46) | And these will depart into everlasting cutting-off, but the righteous ones into everlasting life." (Mt. 25:46) | The Jehovah's witnesses have to translate the Greek word kolasin (which means punishment) into cutting-off because they refuse to believe the Bible's teaching on eternal punishment in hell. They choose to believe the doctrines of devils and say that the wicked will be annihilated and not punished for all eternity. They have no Scriptural basis for this, and they know it, thus they have to make their own "Bible." |
| And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. (Mt. 28:17) | And when they saw him they did obeisance, but some doubted. (Mt. 28:17) | The Jehovah's Witnesses are terrified of admitting that Jesus Christ was, is, and always will be the Almighty God. Thus, they cannot have Him being worshipped like He is here. This is the same reason the other versions change worship into many other things to get out of ascribing the act of worship, which is only due to God, to Him. This same perversion is found in Mat. 8:2; 9:18; 14:33; 15:25; 28:9; Mark 5:6; 15:19; Luke 24:52; John 9:38; Heb. 1:6.) |
| And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. (Luke 23:43) | And he said to him: "Truly I tell you today, You will be with me in Paradise." (Luke 23:43) | Instead of Jesus being with the man in paradise "today," the New World False Translation has Him only telling the man "today." |
| In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) | In the beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god. (John 1:1) | This is one of the grossest blasphemies and intentional errors in the New World Translation. Jesus, the Word, WAS GOD. He was not "a god," but was and is the one God. The Greek never reads "a god" and could never be twisted to say this in a thousand eternities. This is pure blasphemy by God-hating men set to destroy the Bible and make their own brand of "truth." |
| Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.(John 8:58) | Jesus said unto them; Most truly I say to You, before Abraham came into existence, I have been. (John 8:58) | Rather than have Jesus claiming to be God, the I AM (Exodus 3:14), they have Him saying, "I have been." Yet, the Pharisee's response to Him proves that they knew that He was claiming to be the I AM, for "Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by" (John 8:59). They would not have tried to stone Him if He was simply saying that He had been before Abraham came into existence, but for the high offense (to them) of a man claiming to be God they surely would have. |
| The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) (Acts 10:36) | He sent out the word to the sons of Israel to declare to them the good news of peace through Jesus Christ: this One is Lord of all [others]. | The Jehovah False Witnesses cannot accept that Jesus is Lord of all. They have to make Him into another creature and not the Almighty Creator, thus the add the word "other." |
| And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread.... (Acts 20:7) | On the first day of the week when we were gathered together to have a meal.... (Acts 20:7) | Instead of the disciples coming together to break the bread of fellowship, they have them simply having a meal. Thus, attempting to destroy the Sunday worship time. |
| He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? (Rom. 8:32) | He who did not even spare his own Son but delivered him up for us all, why will he not also with him kindly give us all other things? (Rom. 8:32) | They add "other" here in order to make Jesus into just another thing. The Bible truth is that He is Almighty God (John 1:1, 14; 1 Tim 3:16; etc.)! |
| Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. (Rom. 9:5) | to whom the forefathers belong and from whom the Christ [sprang] according to the flesh: God, who is over all, [be] blessed forever. Amen. (Rom. 9:5) | Here they shift the focus from Christ being God who is lord over all and try to make this only be talking about the Father God. They will stoop to all levels to make the Bible say what they teach, rather than them just teach what it says. |
| For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Rom. 10:13) | For "everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved." (Rom. 10:13) | They mistranslate (or more accurately misparaphrase) the Greek kurios (which means "Lord") into "Jehovah." The reason they do this here is because in v.9 Jesus is called Lord (Greek kurios) and if they were to faithfully put "Lord" here (like they did when it occurred in v.9) it would thoroughly destroy their soul-damning denial of the Lord Jesus' being Jehovah God. |
| And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. (1 Cor. 10:4) | For they used to drink from the spiritual rock-mass that followed them, and that rock-mass meant Christ. (1 Cor. 10:4) | The Jehovah's Witnesses realized that they could not have the Rock be Christ, because then He would be God and their man-made religion would be destroyed. Thus, they pervert it by saying the Rock only MEANT Christ, instead of as the Greek and English read that the Rock WAS Christ! |
| For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: (Phil. 1:23) | I am under pressure from these two things; but what I do desire is the releasing and the being with Christ, for this, to be sure, is far better. (Phil. 1:23) | They make our departing and being with the Lord Jesus Christ two separate events. This is because they believe in soul-sleep, i.e. that the soul sleeps in the grave until the body is resurrected. |
| Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: (Phil. 2:6) | who, although he was existing in God's form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal with God. (Phil. 2:6) | The vast majority of the bible perversions translate/paraphrase this verse the same way. The Jehovah's Witnesses deny the truth that Jesus was equal with God, because this destroys the sandy foundation that their religion is built on. (Also see THE GODLESS "CHRIST" OF THE BIBLE PERVERSIONS). |
| For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. (Col. 1:16-17) | because by means of him all other things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All other things have been created through him and for him. Also, he is before all other things and by means of him all other things were made to exist (Col. 1:16-17) | Here they deceptively add the word other without cause. No Greek manuscript contains "other" and this is only their addition to the word of God to try to prove their unprovable doctrines (Cp. Revelation 22:18-19). They simply want Jesus to be another created being and not the Creator. This verse destroys their theories so they had to tamper with it. |
| For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. (Col. 2:9) | Because it is in him that all the fulness of the divine quality dwells bodily. (Col. 2:9) | Divine quality? This is a pathetic attempt to get out of the obvious truth that Jesus is God, thus having the fulness of the Godhead dwelling in Him bodily. |
| And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. (1 Tim. 3:16) | Indeed, the sacred secret of this godly devotion is admittedly great: 'He was made manifest in flesh, was declared righteous in spirit, appeared to angels, was preached about among nations, was believed upon in [the] world, was received up in glory.' (1 Tim. 3:16) | The Jehovah's Witnesses follow the lead of many of the other bible perversions by putting "He" here instead of "God" as the accurate and non-edited Greek texts use. All men are manifested in the flesh, thus without "God" here Jesus is no different than anyone else. The Jehovah's Witnesses and others would love to have you deny the Bible and its teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ. This is one way they try to do it, by perverting the word of the living God. |
| But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever....(Heb. 1:8) | But with reference to the son God is your throne forever. (Heb. 1:8) | It is impossible to get the Jehovah's Witness perversion from this verse in the Greek. The Greek reads, "Thy throne, O God" and could never be translated by anyone trying to be even the least bit honest, "God is your throne." |
| Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. (Heb. 12:14) | Pursue peace with all people, and the sanctification without which no man will see the Lord, (Heb. 12:14) | The Bible DOES NOT teach receiving sanctification after salvation, rather you must be sanctified to be saved in the first place (2 Thessalonians 2:13). Sanctification never ends as long as one remains in Christ, for they ever grow in sanctification. It is not some one time experience where you are fully sanctified without further growth in sanctification. That type of sanctification does not occur this side of the grave. |
| For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. (1 John 5:7) | For there are three witness bearers, (1 John 5:7) | This verse is taken out in the majority of the bible perversions and the Jehovah's witnesses do the same. They cannot have the complete verse and retain any semblance of a belief that Jesus and the Holy Ghost are not God. (See 1 John 5:7) |
| I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. (Rev. 1:8) | "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says Jehovah God, "the One who is and who was and who is coming, the Almighty" (Rev. 1:8) | They have to add Jehovah God here instead of how the Greek reads which is "the Lord." The reason they do this is because otherwise the Lord Jesus Christ is saying that He is the Almighty, and they refuse to accept this clear truth, thus they go all out to pervert the Bible into saying what they wish it would actually say. |
| And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; (Rev. 3:14) | And to the angel of the congregation in Laodicea write: These are the things that the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God. (Rev. 3:14) | "By" does not occur in the Greek and is added to the text by the Jehovah's Witnesses. Why? Because that one little word changes the entire meaning. The Bible is simply stating that Jesus Christ, the Amen, the Faithful and true witness, began the creation, for He is the Creator. They realize this and have to add "by" otherwise it is clearly stating that Jesus is God the Creator, and that they refuse to believe. |
