The pomegranate thrives in the dry climates. It
stays fresh for weeks after ripening. It is mentioned a number of times in
the Bible. The love song of the bride in Song of Solomon is a good
example: Song of Songs 8:2, The Shunamite is speaking of Solomon, "I would
lead thee, and bring thee into my mother's house, who would instruct me: I would
cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate."
