Well, I love to keep you on your toes Mrs Cheeky

Now, I'll bring up a point that Mrs Obi mentioned in her email to me (now, you *knew* there'd be one, didn't you ) Cultural differences strike again. I forgot, you guys and Australians don't mean the same thing by 'bicuits'. The aphrodesiac biscuits are definitely not huge cakes or muffins or cookies . Here, a biscuit is a small hard baked thing, or small shortbread. Cookies are usually thought of as quite huge versions of biscuits here. Biscuits aren't bread. Anyway, the idea was that it was a petit party food .

Now I have a BIG question for you Curt's girls:

Do you consider Curt to be gay or Bi? After the orgy scene in VG, I lean towards the opinion that he is Bi, but generally prefers men. What do you think? I need to know for the story.

Whelp, I'm not an official Curt's Girl, but with my observation of VG, I'd go with your assumption, Dove..

Eeek! when's the next installment? I need just one more hit! (sorry, watched trainspotting yesterday... the desire to keep reading your stories could be compared to the desire Rents has for his hit... but only positive!!!) It's become an addiction.
Fantastic as usual, Dove.

Re: Curt, I think you could do whatever you want. In the movie at the beginning he's commenting on making love in gay style, but then there is that orgy scene. And he's in love with Brian, but that also has to do with the personality of Brian not just the fact that he's male. I say Bi is safe.

Dove, it's your story, I think you can make Curt whatever you like. In fact, there are so many sisters in line for some attention from Curt, if you don't make him Bi, they just might take care of him themselves. Did I say that? I mean, the only other Bi character we've got is Jerome, and I can't see you writing a scene ... oh, let's just not go there.

Great as usual, Dove! I had to skim it because I'm at work, but it looks to be another wonderful chapter! You are a master, girl!

One question: first off, I was under the assumption that Etienne's was a hugh house that everyone lived in, but now I find out that there are other houses on a street. So, where perhaps do I live then? Just curious. Anyone got a room or apartment to rent? If not, I'll just stay with that Australian guy from the cigar bar.

Also, do they have "Hammer" on DVD, Dove? I got a player last night, so the VCR issue is no longer a problem. Not that I expect you to buy me a DVD, but I was just curious as to if it was something I could look for here?

Hey K, what does your signature mean? Just curious to know.

Yeah, can we newbies to the neighborhood get a map please? So far I've managed to make it as far as Havana Joe's which I take it is at least a couple of blocks away by a river. That's all I know.

Perhaps my Australian companion has a really spacious, nice loft? I wonder . . .

You gurls are gonna give Dove a nervous breakdown! But yeah, now that you mention it, I wonder where I live, and with whom do I share this domestic bliss...

Dove, to answer your question, I have never considered Curt to be strictly gay. He has too much total sex appeal...attractive to attracted by both sexes is the impression I've always had. Let's not forget, he was surrounded by women in the bar when Brian first met him, as well as the orgy. Plus, I've always thought there may have been some attraction to Mandy as well. [i]They had...chemistry ) I think he just fell in love with Brian more than he had any woman. So...he's bi. But that little insinuation given by NormaJean, is veerrry intriguing...

But, it's your story! Go with your gut feeling...just be sure to include lots and lots of *moans* !!!

I think Curt is very easy-going with his sexuality... he's not the type to label himself or others, for that matter. He's just a very sexual person, full stop. I think he's more the type to fall for a person, not a preference. He finds somebody he digs, he gives chase - doesn't really matter if it's a guy or a girl...

Much love,

Thank you all so so much for all these opinions. I'm amazed - we must all be under an incredible psychic link this week! I actually went to sleep last night thinking I'd like to do a floor plan of the street and put where everyone's rooms are, and I came back today and you've all mentioned it - incredible!!!

Here's the general story:

Jerome was the first resident. He moved into Etienne House, the big mansion originally the only house in the French Quarter street in what is now Etienne Crescent, named after the original house. Alex moved in to share with him soon after, but quickly also bought the house next door. The gardens of these 2 properties are linked.

There are many many rooms in Etienne House and Alex's house, and most of *us* girls took a room each in these as well. Vixen built a studio downstairs by the garden. Eventually Jerome built a studio of his own in the gardens. That's where the first party was.

However - when Curt Wild moved in to the mansion next door to Jerome's on the other side, Jainie, Hedda and I moved in with him (gosh, what a hardship). We sleep with him every night unless we're otherwise occupied, as he's lonely and still getting over Brian. For dramatic purposes, he only sings us to sleep as we hold him all night - he's still pining for a love of his own, but he loves us for looking after him. Which is why he sometimes tries to set us up with other guys.

When Nick moved in across the street, Claude moved over there with him. Claude already had a photographic studio in that house. Nick has a large house, and Alex keeps a private room there for when he wants to be alone. Martin also lives in the same house as Nick. I stayed there for a while but didn't move in. Stephen lives upstairs in the attic tower of this house with Unlvr.

Star lives on the top floor of the main house so her secret satellite equipment gets the best reception.

EyeonEw and hook'donewan live near the bathing pavillion, where they enjoy their 'towelling' duties with the men every morning.

Julien lives around the corner in the house acquired for him by the church.

The Havana Bar is about 5 minutes drive - it's walking distance, as sometimes Curt likes to walk there.

Robert originally lived in the main house, but will soon move across the street and share with a fellow Scot - Duncan, who will be moving in soon.

Andy has rooms near Billy, upstairs above the main living areas. Jitterbug often stays there with him, but hasn't moved in. She only lives down the hall anyway.

Billy lives in the main house, in a room overlooking the gardens and the coop on the hill.

Dean crashes wherever he lands.

Rents is similar. He has a room in Curt's house but usually ends up in Macz's room, or wherever he lands.

I think I got this right - Hedda will nudge me if there's a mistake.

I would LOVE to draw a plan of all this, but I don't have a scanner - hmmm, I'll try a basic line drawing which I can post, though I don't usually draw on computer, so it might be a disaster. Mrs Cheeky found me a great pic of a house which I base Etienne House from, so I'll post that too.

Oh, is DeBacle gonna laugh at that!

But thanks, Dove! And thanks, Bane Boy, for fluffing those pillows--that contributes greatly to my comfort. Or it would if I were conscious to that factor, but I got a feelin I'm feeling no pain.

And excellent as always, Dove!

Okay--the miras have thoroughly confused me!

I love that picture of Stephen!

The EwanSpotting Actors, Writers and Artists Guild is proud to present:

Pillow Book 9 - Scene 2

You Never Know What’s Around the Corner

The Cast: in order of appearance:

Jerome, Dove, Vixen, Gini, Julien, Grace, Michalza, O.W.Kenobi, Curt, An Australian, Mrs Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan, Maurewan, Claude, Nick, Andy, Martin, EyeonEw, Catherine, Hedda, Jainie, Kiwi, Alex.

They stood together in the rain until the last sheet of paper floated out of sight down the river. Jerome was silent, but Dove knew how much this was hurting him and wanted to get him away from this place. She touched his face lightly to gain his attention and asked him to walk back with her to the car. They walked down the hill together and across the riverbank park.

“Did you know?” he asked.

“Know what, Jerome?”

“Did you know about Vixen and her publisher? Am I the only one who didn’t know?”

Dove stopped still. “No, Jerome!” She was amazed. “None of us knew, this is the first I’ve heard of it. My God, no wonder...” she stopped herself from talking about what he’d just done. He didn’t need to hear about it again.

He had put his hands in his pockets and was looking, distracted, at the river. The rain was driving at them, though and he suddenly realised that his companion must be extremely uncomfortable. “Come on,then,” he said gently as he turned and led her forward up the bank to the car. She saw her belongings in a small bundle still by the tyres and picked them up as Jerome opened the door for her. “Wait, you’ll be cold - I’ve got a blanket here to wrap you in.” Jerome reached into the back seat and found his travel blanket and put it around Dove’s shoulders, guiding her at the same time into the front seat. He closed the door and ran around to jump in to the driver’s seat. As he looked for his keys, Dove looked down at the mud on her feet, the rain marks on her dress. She could just imagine the effect of the streaked mascara on her face and tried to wipe it off. As Jerome moved to start the car, he looked over to her. “Are you all right - you’re so quiet. What were you doing out here, anyway?”

“Ah, that’s a long story.”

“Hey, hey...you’re not OK at all, are you?”

She tossed her hands in her lap and shook her head. “You’ve got enough on your plate, don’t worry about me. I just want to get home and have a shower.”

“In a minute.” He took her shoulders and looked at her eyes. “Something happened with Martin, didn’t it?” She nodded and leant on his shoulder, curling into her blanket.

“Can we just go home?”

“Has he hurt you?”

“No, no, oh, maybe...no. It’s just a mess. I think I’ve blown it, but he said some things that really bothered me, too... I think whatever we had is probably gone, there’s a lot that I can’t see us resolving.” Her hands were starting to shake. “I don’t even know what I’m talking about - I’m too tired.”

He touched her face and gently said, “Ok, I won’t push it. Let’s get you home.”

*

Gini was lying on her bed, breathing in the perfume of a richly coloured pink rose, her long dark hair fanned out behind her in a carpet of black across the pillow. When she and Julien had moved out of the gardens earlier upon noticing the first drops of rain he had noticed her studying the roses as they walked and had stopped to pick this one for her. She closed her eyes and trailed it by its long stem down her forehead, her nose, her lips - imagining his touch everywhere the soft petals caressed her. “Mmmmmmmm, Julien,’ she murmured with pleasure. Grace and Michalza were walking past her door at this moment, still in high spirits from the party. They took a few more steps then stopped and looked at each other at the same instant. “Julien???”

The two immediately turned and hurried back to Gini’s room. Michalza put her finger to her lips to indicate to Grace not to say a word and they crept in towards Gini, whose kitten was romping on the bed beside her with a piece of string. When Michalza was standing right above Gini’s head she took another rose from the scattered collectio She knew she would hear it from the girls in the morning - they would want to know where she had been sneaking off to each night this week. She could hardly believe it herself. In a street filled with such men she had been going elsewhere for her diversions. Last week in Havana Joe’s Bar she had met the intriguing Australian and had found herself returning to hear his band each night. He had stopped for drinks with her sometimes between sets. Home was where her heart was, though, and she couldn’t wait to see what gossip there was to be had tonight. Parties seemed to throw the spotlight on relationships in Etienne Crescent.

Her own heritage had been cause for much debate, particularly with Mrs Obi-Wan when she had found out her surname was “Kenobi”. The look she had given O.W. had amazed her until she knew why - she shared the same surname as Mrs Obi’s lover and it had aroused her curiosity no limit. O. W. Kenobi did not know herself how she came to share the same name and didn’t know what to tell her friend, so she took the question to the famous Jedi himself on his last visit. He had embraced her on the spot, telling her that a few hundred years ago a branch of his family had come to Earth and she must be a descendant. It had made her feel elated to be part of such a family and he had come to treat her as a sister. Well, this was the only slight drawback. She would have preferred he treated her as so much more.

The taxi services of New Orleans had had a busy night. From the other direction another pulled up at the same time as O. W. Kenobi’s. It was Maurewan arriving to the community. She had not been expected until tomorrow but couldn’t wait to see her residence after Claude’s description. O.W. Kenobi saw her and called her over.

“Hi - can I help you with all that luggage?”

“Thanks. I’m looking for Claude and Nick. Do you know them?”

“Oh sure. They’re probably inside the main house at the party. Come on in.”

Maurewan looked in fascination at the grand hall as she followed the noise from the party rooms. She was nearly within the party when O.W. Kenobi steered her into the kitchen. “Come in here first and put your bags down where they’re safe. Help yourself to a drink - I’ll go get Claude.”

“Ok.” Relieved to be rid of their weight, Maurewan went to the fridge and got a drink. As she was closing the door a hand covered hers.

“Caught you!”

Maurewan jumped until she realised the voice was friendly. She turned to see a very handsome young man in just trousers. When he saw her surprised face, he laughed. “Oh, I’m not ‘here’, I’ve already gone upstairs - just stopping in for a refill. The name’s Andy.”

“I’m Maurewan - nice to meet you.”

“You too - you’re Claude’s friend, aren’t you? Let’s catch up tomorrow.” He ran upstairs laden with bottles of beer.

Claude came through the door and gave her friend a hug. “You made it ok?”

“Yes...fine...who was that?!!!!”

Claude couldn’t help laughing. She knew Maurewan would enjoy living here. “That’s Andy - he’s upstairs with Jitterbug tonight, but let’s get you settled in and you can meet him properly tomorrow.” The prospect of ‘tomorrow’ certainly captured Maurewan’s imagination, and she followed Claude inside to find Nick.

*

Martin was walking around the side verandahs of the main house, his hands interlocked behind his neck. He was obviously irritated. When EyeonEw emerged from the party to watch the rain for a while after saying her farewells she walked straight into him. Upon seeing her he quickly put his arms into the railings to try and look casual.

“What’s happening, Martin?”

“Nothing with me - how about you?”

She didn’t take him at his word. EyeonEw stepped up close. As soon as she was beside him, the memory of their night together came back vividly to her. He was wearing the same aftershave, the same shirt. Even his hair smelt the same. “I saw you and Dove before...”

“Oh, great, just what we needed.”

“Hey, I wasn’t intruding, I couldn’t help but hear. You weren’t exactly quiet...but why were you so angry?”

“You really want to know? folded her arms onto the window sill and rested her chin there, looking out across the gardens to Jerome’s studio. There was a good view of it from her room, even though it was mostly obscured by the large magnolia. She sighed to herself and thought how glad she was to be comfortable and dry again, barefoot in her favourite white t-shirt and shorts, ready for bed. She had her bedroom filled with flower heads floating in shallow bowls of water. As she dipped her finger into the bowl nearest her and pushed around the decadent blooms she began to daydream, pushing the night away with her thoughts...

Time on her own again gave her opportunity to reflect how she loved the heritage of this old house and she entertained the idea of being romanced by the men here in a simpler time, 200 years ago in the lamplight. She imagined dancing with Martin while in a cloud of perfumed air, the way it was before their argument. As she subconsciously rocked herself while dreaming away at the thought of moonlight dances she heard a tap at the door as it creaked slightly open and drowsily she lifted her head.

“Dove, are you awake?”

It was the soft voice of Jerome making the enquiry. She raised her eyebrow and moved over to the door. Holding it against her she peered around to see Jerome’s face and smiled to him. He looked at her with a fond expression, saying, “I see you can’t sleep either.”

“No,” she replied wearily, “it’s been ‘one of those nights’.” She stepped aside to hold the door open for him and he came inside. For a moment they stood silently. While it had felt natural to be together as friends earlier in the evening, it suddenly felt awkward to be alone together in her room. He had also changed clothes and was now wearing his soft cream trousers and white shirt. “I’m afraid I’m not really dressed for company, Jerome.”

“Oh, no, don’t worry about that at all, not at all.” More awkwardness. He started to walk across the room. “This is nice.”

“Oh, thanks... I’m hardly ever here to do much with it though.”

“But it’s good to have a place of your own, with just your own things.”

“Yes, that’s right, it is.”

He turned around to face her and told her, “I’ve been considering what I’d like to do - would you like to hear about it?”

Intrigued, she nodded.

He took her hand and indicated that she sit on the bed. He joined her and they sat cross-legged opposite each other as he went through his plans. “I’m going to work on translations on the old books in the library downstairs. Most of them are unique diaries, written by the former owners and have never been translated from the French. They are filled with scandals that have never been told outside these walls in the last 2 centuries - I think there’ll be a lot of interest from the local publishers.”

“Just what the world needs,” she smiled, “more Etienne scandals.” They laughed together at the thought, and her long hair fell down past her eyes. She felt Jerome’s fingers gently easing the wayward strands back behind her ear. When she looked up to him he was very close, almost leaning his forehead on hers. Dove felt him taking her fingers into his hand as he spoke, “I was wondering if you’d like to help.”

“I’d love to, Jerome, but...” (this would be embarrassing to such a literary man) , “I don’t know French.”

“Oh...” He then smiled in his conspiratorial manner and replied, “shall I teach you?” As she felt his fingers starting to stroke along her neck she closed her eyes and felt his lips touch against hers, so soft - a tender and gentle kiss. After a moment they both opened their eyes and looked at one another. “Would you like to think about it?” he asked as he caressed her cheek.

Wide eyed, she simply nodded her reply as he stood up, reached over to kiss her forehead and made his way to the door. “I’ll see you tomorrow then?”

“Tomorrow, then,” she repeated. He held his hand up in a farewell gesture as he opened the door and quietly closed it again. She heard his footsteps walking away. Dove fell backwards onto the pillows, still processing what had just happened. Arial">IP: Logged

Right, and even then you got the sense that Curt was using that word as though he was mocking the press - you could practically hear the quote marks...! Thanks, Dove...I love the feel of New Orleans, the romanticism and mystery of it. That was definitely a good choice for a scenario! I can just picture myself on a balcony, relaxing, reading a book..

KMonge Aren't you still at the party? the party that never ever ends....

You won't be observing for long, dear

Jainie A psychic is a great idea - you could do Curt's 'reading' which will fit in with what's planned very well. But we don't need to earn a living - by some stroke of luck we're all independently wealthy

Now, here's the 'state of the union'!

Our hedda told me she'd be posting a scene after the election. On Monday this sounded good. Now I'm getting worried we'll never get her back! but let's not bring up this topic here, 'kay?

So....I shall 'allude' to the goings on in Curt's mansion until I hear from her what she's doing.

Ach! I think I missed something..or I must be completely inebriated right now..

dear

Observing can be a good thing, however..

Incidentally yours,
Though I wear my guilt like a finely-cut gem;
Sharing my treasures with those
Who cultivate the brilliance of the blend.
We decorate in summer roses,
Yet the thorns that are hidden
Can be exposed in the end.
Can you heal your wounds with the embrace of the rain?
Or fall into the gentle comfort of the wind?

Well, don't ask..but..

Heehee... oh, I do like the sound of that! I sincerely do think I must have been a noblewoman in a past life, that would explain my neverending disdain for work... lol

And, all joking aside, I truly am a bit psychic - you need help with any details or have any questions, by all means, email me and fire away!

LOL - yeah, this election stuff is a little sticky right now (recounts, recounts *grumble-grouse*)... but, like you said, let's not go into it

Ohhhh, Hedda! Come back to us, girly! We miss you!

And KMonge: Good grief, girl! You on a bender or what? lmao... put the bottle down, step awayyyyyyy from the bottle. Man, I don't envy your hangover, chicklet! lol

Much love,
J

Woo-hoo! Someone's saucy today. Well, it's a wonder you didn't put Stephen on your original list

Psssst: Some of the guys are frightened of us - they think we're a cult. But they should really be nervous of us for another reason....because we're *female* and we move in mysterious ways to nature's patterns and we're running on hormones - and it's the full moon weekend again

so take it away ladies I think we're in for a big weekend.

Hedda Just wrote! She is writing this weekend - YAY!!!

..please pass the Alka-Seltzer, Jaenies, my mind is spinning..or a bath in buckets of ice-water would suffice at this point..

Looking forward to Hedda's next installment..!
