sampler cd review #1
one of the few negative reviews of erno's cd sampler
hello tom.
i first wanted to thank you for taking the time to send me the cd . its always good to hear new music. i've written a review of it(below) track by track and hope that you will put my thoughts to consideration and not be rubbed the wrong way by some of the comments. thanks again. good-bye
the lesson- nice song lyrically/content but i don't hear any emotion in your voice. although it may be there it is not expressed well
3am- good potential. you should try to use more dynamics though. raise the climaxes and soften the falls.
sometimes (who am i?)- first have producer edit beginning. bumpy. also need to use dynamics. its constant. nothing to grab my attention. but good lyrically
snow- good backing instrument line but you should play with your vocals a bit. it doesn't seem to mix with the instruments
sleep on your side- excellent beginning. again have producer fix some technical problems. other than that a great song
satellite parade- good vibes. new-age *beck* sort of thing.
sarah's desert- nice opening. interesting to listen to. gong part is a great touch. pink-floyd feel. wonderful
the ray- doesn't sound like you're writing/singing for yourself. like you're trying to imitate something. who the hell cares. just sing your own thing
plastic sun/crazy moon- vocals don't go with instruments
mistakes- try to do some alternate strumming techniques like on track 5. straight 4/4 gets boring to listen to
"what now, little man"?- *korn* like opening. not really my thing but someone else might enjoy it.
kryst- neat groove. gets me dancing. i really dig this one
icicles- nice line but cant play straight for 1:40. gets old
hazel- NEED TO USE DYNAMICS
fly a kite (reprise)- nice groove but again cant listen to constantly
devil on a bike- i hear no emotion
cornflakes- vocals and instruments clash
feel the bomb- another neat groove to open up. nice delay effect also. USE DYNAMICS. also a nice synth solo. nice club song
amber fields- try to get away from open chords. ya got lots of frets. use them all. and sing feelings not notes
submarine- nice mix of eastern on top of rock opening. i don't like the vocal part though. if you wanna talk over music that's cool and all but talk to me not the microphone.
well tom there ya have it. i hope you're not angered by any of my comments. if you wish to you may ignore them or use them whatever you wish. they may or may not mean anything its just my opinion of the album. a lot of the songs have good potential but just need more. remember what i feel is the most important thing in playing music-EMOTION . you've gotta find a way to express it. you may have lots of it in your words and notes but they're not coming out good. i'm not claiming to have the ability to express it well(i don't sing but i play guitar) but here are some things i always seem to hear incredible emotion in...
