gig-preparation letter to kevin
a week or so before a cbgb gallery gig, i wrote this to kevin, my engineer, producer and drummer...
hi kevin,
i picked-up a ny press, and i was happy to read that we're on first saturday night. that means we can have a possible sound check. even if we don't, we'll have plenty of time to set-up our stuff and relax. we should plan on being there around 5-6pm. (whenever they allow band loading) we'll be going on at 8pm sharp, because there is no other band before us. tell your friends it'll be right at 8pm, and to get there early. PLEASE REMIND YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT SATURDAY. I KNOW YOU'RE BUSY, BUT THE MORE PEOPLE, THE BETTER.
here's the schedule from now until show-time.
wednesday-thursday
i'll be getting my voice exercised by singing songs with my acoustic
friday
i'll bring my acoustic to work and rehearse with michelle after work you mentioned we may be able to rehearse at the studio after that, LET ME KNOW
saturday
i'll get to your apartment around 9-10am, and we'll set-up your drums there, to see what's missing we'll take down the drums and load the car (don't forget the shaker, etc) (my stuff is pretty much at the studio already, except for the groovebox) we'll get to the studio around lunch-time, and we'll unload set-up for rehearsal, but don't rehearse yet, WE SHOULD DUPE CD'S FOR ABOUT 2HRS AND I'LL GET WARMED-UP around 1-2pm, we'll rehearse quickly (about :30) next, we'll stage all equipment near the door, and then eat lunch (bourbon chicken???)
we'll hang-out and get psyched for the show from 3-5pm at 5pm, we'll load the car and head down for cb's we'll set-up everything on the stage and hang-out play the gig and give-away 1 cd to each person who signs mailing list take shit off stage, and stage near the side of the stage with blankets over it meet & greet audience members get paid pay musicians ($100 each) hang-out for the other shows load car and head back to the studio unload, and go to sleep (if you can) hopefully, we kicked ass and made a couple of bucks.
