Nancy grabbed a few more stakes and stuffed them into her Slaying bag. She waited to
her the familiar honk of Oz's van out front to whisk them all away onto patrol. Probably
another sleepless night of hunting Sunnydale's undead residents. She grabbed a few more
crosses just in case she couldn't get a clean kill and drank a vile of Holy water. It was
general procedure, white hat rules. Before patrol drink Holy Water. They might kill you
but they can't turn you. Then the honk sounded from down stairs.

She grabbed her bag and flipped the light off in her room and headed down the stairs and
out the front door. She jumped into the back with Larry waiting to hear what Giles was
planning for tonight. They were a small group but it was all Sunnydale had left as a
defense.

"Tonight we are just going to be going downtown and through the major parks, Nancy
did you ever do the research I asked to do on vampire holidays this month?" Nancy shook
her head and rolled her eyes only Larry noticed that. He snorted. Giles was always
making them research one thing or another.

"Not yet. Planning to do it when I get home.. tomorrow morning. Sir." She said making
Oz and Larry laugh. Giles made a "I don't know why I put up with this" sound and stayed
quiet.

Oz made a left turn onto main street and speeded up. "Bloodsuckers." he mumbled using
as few words as possible. Oz was just like that. The vamps jumped back as the headlights
caught them in the eyes. Oz whipped out his crossbow and aimed it at them and Giles had
a stake. Larry opened the door both he and Nancy ready with a cross.

"I've got them! Get the girl!" Giles said loudly and they jumped down from the van and
grabbed the girl in a bright blue dress. Nancy thought she recognized her as Cordelia
Chase. They pulled her into the van and Oz sped away.

Great another preppy brain dead moron to protect. Nancy thought to herself and sat back
against the inside of the van. They would be going to the library now. Another night of
patrol ruined by somebody who didn't have enough sense to stay inside.
~*~
Cordelia lay on the library research table. Oz, Larry, Giles, and Nancy stood over her
looking down
at her like she was a crazy woman.

"How's she doing?" Oz asked, probably thinking about how Cordelia could be a possible
recruit.

"Her pulse is strong.." Giles said and set her hand down.

"What was she doing wearing that? Everyone knows vampires are attracted to bright
colors." Nancy
said hand on hip. This girl had to be insane.

Larry spoke up, "That's Cordelia. Better to look good then feel alive." Nancy shook her
head.

Giles stared at the raven haired girl on the table. "Ah, go and, ah, watch the perimeters in
case they
follow." he mumbled as if not knowing what else to do.

Nancy, Larry, and Oz grabbed different weapons and headed outside. As soon as they
were out the
stacks door Nancy made a disgusted sound. "Why would they follow us for her? They
know the
boundries." She said in a annoyed tone.

Oz shrugged. "Maybe they really want her, all easter bunny looking." Nancy laughed.
"Okay split up
then, Larry take the emergancy exit, Nan stay here. I'll go out front." Nancy and Larry
nodded and
followed Oz's instructions.

Nancy stood at the door and ran her fingers over her smooth stake. She'd spent a long
time sanding
down this particular stake, it was sharp. Her favorite. She almost laughed, she had a
favorite Stake.
Not a favorite band, tv show.. although she was particular to that Felicity show when she
could catch
it.. but she did have a favorite stake. Yeah she was just a normal teenager.

She became alert hearing a sound from where Larry had been, a struggle. She ran towards
the
sound, turning the corner in time to see Larry struggling with three vampires and then see
them shove
his own stake into his chest. Larrys shocked expression fell on her and she stared in
horror as he
slipped to the ground. "Bastards!" She growled and they turned around to glare at her.
"Oz over
here!" She screamed out in warning hoping he would get there in time.

The Vampires leaped at her and the first one a big burly guy took her down. She thought
she
recognized him as her old chemestry teacher. Her head hit the ground with a crack and
she felt the
vamp moving towards her neck. She brought her knee up to his groin in the move every
girl knew.
The vamp grunted in pain and moved away from her. She was dizzy from her blow to the
head but
she heard Oz there fighting with the vamps.

She got to her feet unsteadily and saw a blurry vision of the vamp she'd kneed quickly
recovering.

"Bitch" He growled low in his throat. He sprung at her again and she brought her stake up
aiming for
what she hoped was the heart. She felt the impact throw her back against the school wall
and then
the guy was gone. Dusted.

Oz had taken care of one of the vampires but was now struggling with the last, the one
Nan
recognized as Larry's killer. She came up behing two struggling for power and brought
out a vile of
Holy water. She tossed on the vampires skull and down his back. He hissed in pain and
moved back
knocking her onto her backside yet again. Bruises tomarrow. The smell of burning flesh
hit her
nostrals just before Oz finally staked the burning sake of dead flesh.

"Shit Giles," Nancy swore under her breathe and got to her feet running into the library
with Oz on
her heels. Giles was leaning over Cordelia Chase's corpse. Nancy halted at the top of the
stairs.
Damn.

~*~End Prologue 2~*~
Nancy and Oz stood in the side room in the library sharpening stakes and
thinking quietly. Giles came in rushing about with a book and the
necklace he had taken off of Cordelia's corpse in his hand. "I found it!
Here look!" He held the book out for Nancy and Oz to see. "It's what,
um, Cordelia was wearing. It's the, the, uh, symbol of, of Anyanka."

"Don't think i know her." Oz said and went back to sharpening his stake.
Nancy shook her head in agreement.

Giles glanced at them and sat down at the table. "Well, no. Um, Anyanka
is a, sort of a Patron Saint of scorned women." Nancy's ears perked up.

"What's she do?" she asked glancing at the book again with interest, she
could be as scorned as anyone.

Giles glanced up at them. "She grants wishes."

Oz didn't even look up, "So Cordelia wished for something? Well, if it
was a long, healthy life, she should get her money back."

Nancy snorted. Giles made a exasperated sigh. "She said something about
everything being different, that the... the world wasn't supposed to be
like this. It was, um, better. Before."

"So the world sucks because some dumb bimbo made a wish?" Nancy asked
bluntly and stared at Giles and Oz's shocked expressions. "May she rest
in peace.."

"Yes well, she said the, uh... the Slayer was supposed to be here, was,
um, meant to have been here already." Giles said removing his glasses
and rubbing the bridge of his nose.

"Certainly would have helped." Oz mumbled and set down the stake he'd
been working on.

Giles stood up. "Yes. I tried calling her, but, um... Look, I'm, I'm,
I'm gonna have to... research this Anyanka thing further. Um, I have
some more... volumes at, at home. You two, two get some sleep."

Nancy and Oz nodded. "Watch your back." they said almost in unison.
~*~

Oz was driving Nancy home when they spotted some vampires attacking a
group of people. "off duty slayage." Nancy mumbled and Oz nodded. Nancy
climbed over to the backseat and grabbed her slay bag and jumped out of
the van as soon as Oz stopped. He was behind her as soon as he had
grabbed a stake.

Nancy ran into the group and staked a unsuspecting vampire before he
could even think. The vampires turned and glared at her with demonic
eyes. There was at least ten of them. They had her and Oz before they
could even make a run for it.

~*~

Nancy stood in a wooden planked cage next to Oz with about thirty of
Sunnydales still living residents. They were in deep, there was no doubt
about it. The Master was up in front of at least 50 Vampires yapping
away about some vampires ruling the earth crap. Nancy could care less,
she was too busy trying to figure out how the hell to get out of here.

"Bring the first!" The Master bombed which brought Nancy back to earth.
Two of the guard vampires, they grabbed one of Cordelia's friends. Nancy
vaguely thought of her name as Victoria. The vampires started to drag
her out, Oz jumped at them trying to get them to drop the screeching
girl beating on them with his fists. They threw him back and he crashed
into her sending a few people to the ground.

Nancy and Oz watched in disbelief as the vampires put her on the spidery
looking thing. The Master was still babbling and that redheaded bitch
was eyeing Oz like candy.

The Machine that Victoria was strapped in started to make sounds, and
move slowly. The spidery forks came up and impaled themselves on
Victoria's body. Nancy watched in shock as red liquid started being
sucked from her still alive body. Still alive, for the freshness." She
thought she heard the master hiss. "Welcome to the future." The master
said taking a wine goblet full of the blood. He drank it and all the
other vampires yelled "To the future!"

Nancy heard the whizz of a crossbow bolt fly through the air and saw The
Master move with reflexes like a cat pulling Xander in front of him.
The bolt imbedded itself in Xander's shoulder.

"Uh oh, Puppy got out." The redhead purred from where she was perched.
Everything exploded into violence.

Somehow they got out of the cage Oz ripped off part of the cage itself
as people took flight running out of the room. She noticed the blonde
girl with a crossbow backhand the redhead and bit back a cheer. Somebody
crashed into her back she went flying to the ground all the air shooting
out of her lungs. She could feel the vampire *she assumed it was a
vampire* beating on her back as if trying to crush in her ribcage. Then
the weight was gone and Oz was helping her up.

"C'mon we gotta get out of here.." he said and pulled her to her feet.
Her head was swimming but she followed the bobbing bleached blond. She
saw the blond girl who had backhanded the redhead get her neck snapped
by the Master and the one the red bitch had referred to as puppy go up
in dust. Hm. He was a vampire.. couldn't be. was that the netorious
Angelus? Oh well didn't matter now.

Nancy tripped over what looked like used to be a human and went crashing
to her knees. This was not her night for staying upright. She growled at
her own clumsiness and crawled to her feet again and stumbled out of the
factory.

"Let's get to Giles and see what the hell happened." Oz said coming up
behind her. "I think the vans only a block away." He said offering her a
shoulder to lean on. Her world was all blurry from the current blows to
the head she'd taken.
~*~
Nancy and Oz entered Giles apartment after what seemed like a eternity
of finding the van and driving. The place was thrashed. Giles was
sitting in the corner with his head in his hands, "I tried. I tried. God
forgive me, nothing helps."

Nancy went and leaned down next to him. "Giles?" Giles stared at her
with sad eyes. "I tried Nancy. It didn't help."

Nancy nodded. "That's alright Giles."

"I tried crushing Anyanka's power source, it didn't help." Oz shook his
head. "Giles?" He handed Nancy a ice pack and some Tylenol, she pressed
it to her sore head. The phone rang. Giles stood up on shaky legs and
answered it. "Yes, hello? Mr. Giles speaking. The watchers council?
WHAT? Yes, I'm sure. No. Your sure? Absolutely? Good lord." Giles talked
like that for a few more minutes and Nancy tried not to go to sleep. She
probably had a few concussions on concussions.

Finally Giles hung up the phone looking rather pale. "Nancy?" He asked
as more of a question. Oz stared at him from where he was seated looking
exhausted at the table.

"Yeah?" Nancy asked warily.

"Your the new Slayer."
