These tips are based on my own trooble shooting experience and may or amy not work, and are based on windows format.

I'll try to make my instructions easy to scan, but also as specific as possible. Where appropriate, I'll include pictures that illustrate the steps.

Modem connection problem?

Step 1: turn on your pc.

Step 2. make sure your connecting using the correct username, pw and phone #. you can check this by double clicking on your browser, this should bring up a "connect to box" which will display your info.

Step 3. make sure your hear the modem dail and handshake (sounds like cats fighting)if not it may be a problem with your modem.

Step 4. write down the error, then look up the DUN error using the link I provide on my links page (modemhelp.net)
this will give you the possible fix.

Step 5. make sure your problem is not on your ISP side

2. cellphone or second phone line, if you need to call tech support you can free up your modem.

Terminology

RAM - Random Access Memory
ROM - Ready Only Memory
GB - Giga byte
MB - Megea byte
KB - Kilo byte
Bps - Bytes per second
bps - Bits per second
DUN - Dial up Networking
CPU - Central Processing Unit
MHZ - mega Hertz (clock speed of CPU)
DSL - Digital Subcriber Line
ISP - Internet Service Provider (i.e. AOL, verizon, earthlink)

Cookie - information sent by a web server to a web browser that the browser software is expected to save and send back to the server whenever the same browser makes additional requests from the server.

Firewall - a computer that specifically monitors traffic between a site and the internet. The main purpose of a firewall is to keep outsiders from tampering with a computer system.

HTML - Hypertext Markup Language: the coding language used to create hypertext documents for use on the Internet.

HTTP - Hypertext Transfer Protocol: the protocol for moving hypertext files across the Internet.
Hypertext - online text that contains links to other documents.

URL - uniform resource locator: the standard way to give the address of any resource on the Internet that is a part of the world wide web (www). For example, www.plugingo.com
