The language communities at UGA (French and Spanish) were established in the fall of 2000 in an effort to provide more language exposure to interested students by blending the classroom experience with that of living in a college dorm. The mix of these normally contrasting atmospheres results in a simulated immersion environment where the residents are constantly encouraged to communicate in the target language. The program, currently in its second year, has proven to be a huge success! Click here to visit the Spanish community website! Language Community Staff Kenyon Brown is the current graduate student coordinator for the French Language Community. Dr. Catherine Jones is the faculty supervisor. Dr. Jones is one of the founders of the language communities. Her efforts, along with those of Dr. Diana Ranson (supervisor for Spanish), are highly commendable and continue to be an integral part of the program's ongoing success. Kenyon Brown, a master's student in French, has recently assumed the post of language coordinator. He received his bachelor's degree in Modern Languages from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC where he was president of his French club, a member of L'Alliance Francaise of Charlotte, and member of the Pi Delta Phi National French Honor Society. Afterwards, he studied at the Universite de CAEN in lower Normandy and received a diploma in advanced French language and cultural studies. Kenyon decided to return to the US to complete his MA and anticipates entering law school in the fall of 2002.
