Angela Bassett - Vance was born August 16, 1958 in Hew York
New York and raised in St. Peteresburg, Florida. Her first
realization that she wanted to become an actress was at performance, Of
Mice and Men
, starring James Earl Jones at the Kennedy Center in
Washington D.C. Angela at that moment decided she would pursue
acting as a career. She would star in every school and church plays.

Angela tackled acting so that by time she graduated she was well-versed
enought to go to Yale University where she would pursue and graduate
with a B.A. degree in Drama as well as her Master's degree as well.

While at Yale Angela would study under the accomplished director Lloyd
Richards and established herself as an incredibly powerful stage actress.
Starring in two (Tony Award winner) August Wilson's plays, Ma
Rainey's Black Bottom and Joe Turner's Come and Gone.

Despite her success on stage Angela's greatest struggle would come when
she tried to break into acting in films. Hollywood was all to swift to cast
her as a hooker or best friend to her white counterparts, as the film
Doubletakes, where she plays a hooker. But Angela continued to make a
name for herself in such films as Boyz N' the Hood which was the best
breakthrough performance for herself and all of her castmates. Both she
and Laurence Fishburne would later be Academy-nominated in the Best
Actor and Best Actress. While Nia Long has continue to portray
strong characters as well as Morris Chestnut and Ice Cube. Cuba
Gooding Jr. has womn an Academy Award for best Supporting Actor
and continues to portray powerful characters.

Angela would gon to portray the powerful Betty Shabazz in Malcolm
X
opposite Academy winner Denzel Washington and bring to life two
Terry McMillian films Waiting to Exhale and How Stella Got Her
Groove Back
.

In 1996 Angela married the man she met and fell in love with, fellow actor
Courtney B. Vance and she's primed to continue her great acting in her
soom bto be release film Wings Against the Wind, a biopic on the late
Bess Coleman a black female piolet. Angela continues to inspire many
and some days we can only hope she will become the first Academy winner
for Best Actress.
