Biography
"Face it, tiger -- you just hit the jackpot."
Perhaps the most memorable entrance line in the annals of The Amazing Spider-Man (if not the history of comics) came from the mouth of Mary Jane Watson when she walked in Peter Parker's life for the very first time. It seems Peter's Aunt May and MJ's aunt, May's neighbor ANNA WATSON, had been trying to set up a blind date between Peter and Mary Jane for a long time. Peter had been through the "Have-I-got-a-girl-for-you" bit with his dear old auntie way too many times, until one day he finally ran out of excuses.
Mary Jane Watson is the daughter of college sweethears, an aspiring writer cum small-town college professor and a wold-be actress who gave up her plans for a career. The Watsons' marriage was not a happy one and as her family moved from college town to college town, Mary Jane began taking on the outgoing, fun-loving personality that enabled her to make new friends so easily...and the socializing through which she escaped the discord in her home life. Mary Jane's troubles are always hidden behind a ready smile and a casual, go-with-the-flow demeanor.
After her mother, Madeline died, Mary Jane left home, resolving not to sacrifice her dreams as her mother and sister had done. The day after she came to stay with her Aunt Anna, she announced her determination to take the Big Apple by storm and make it an actress.
It should be noted that, for her part, Mary Jane was not exactly thrilled about meeting Peter either -- at least, not according to her. But, as it turns out, Peter's broad grin and delighted reaction melted whatever reservations she may have had. Thus was set the course by which the passionate, fun-loving, extroverted redhead will eventually become the love of Peter Parker's life. She's slowly becoming an important part of Peter's life -- confusing him terribly as he vacillates between his infatuation with the wealthy and beautiful, FELICIA HARDY and his powerful attraction to the glamorous aspiring actress and successful fashion model that Mary Jane is quickly becoming.
