Dream 6 (RF2292)
Characters: Me
My dad
Some old lady resembling Brian's mom
My mom
Setting: Inside my dad's Mercedes…it's a 2002 C240 if you want to picture it…In and around Stone Mountain, GA
Weather (it plays a factor in the mood of the dream): darkening, overcast
Dreamer Notes: This is the second consecutive night I've had dreams, this time without music in the background. This dream involves my first overture into driving, and I've forgotten the name of most of these roads, so this will be shorter than most others.
The dream kicks off as my dad's driving the Mercedes, which appears to contain this lady (see character description) and my mom. He's exiting off what looks like a road leading from highway 285 and suddenly a round, leathery wheel appears in front of me, as I'm sitting in the back seat as I always do.
My dad: “Drive!”
Me (already knowing the answer to my question): “What? What's this wheel doing here?”
My dad: “My son, drive the car!”
Me: “Drive? Me? Do you have a death wish?”
Okay, now we take a step backward to pause. I enjoy driving, but only on the computer and in simulations. I have “autophobia”, if such a condition exists. Driving a car is one of the most frightening things that could happen to me, scarier than being collected in a giant bubble gum bubble in my opinion.
So now I pull into the street (turning left into right-side lane), having barely glanced at oncoming traffic (that's a given considering I'm driving from the back seat). I barely miss one car coming from the right into my lane, but I keep going. I hear two loud blasts of the car behind me, loudly besmirching me. I ignore that driver and speed on.
I look further ahead, and I hear the sounds from the front seat of the old lady and my mom congratulating me on surviving this long. I see that the road is a narrow and winding one, much to my chagrin. At least I'm already on it, I thought.
The road now appears to be a super-modified Rockbridge Road (a long, paved, winding road that kind of goes through most of Stone Mountain and runs about five miles, and runs right up to my subdivision in Waters Edge).
Although the road is well paved and all, my hand's shaking like a madman with arthritis. That's not how driving is supposed to feel in my opinion, but I think all of the shaking was because I slept all night on those very hands.
The road continues to wind and narrow and expand all at the same time. There are no stoplights and rain appears threatening. I've now driven a majority of the distance, coming to within two miles of my subdivision, but suddenly the power gives out in the car, and I struggle to pull it over. It stops in someone's front yard. My dad gets out and has a look at the car, which is actually not damaged. My mom and the other lady head out and disappear; Perhaps, I suppose, to vomit. My dad comes to me, asking where my mom is, but she resurfaces on her own.
The dream ends as I'm still sitting in the driver's seat, getting a rest and trying to soothe my hands.
