Bands

Digital Ruin
  1. The Homepage of Digital Ruin
Comments : Yet another great US progmetal band... Their album 'Listen' is one of those albums that just get better with every listen... Emotional and full of a darkness that reminds me of Operation:Mindcrime at times, this sci-fi conceptual masterpiece definitely establishes Digital Ruin as one of the most interesting progmetal acts of the moment ...

Dreams Of Sanity
  1. The Unofficial Dreams Of Sanity Homepage
Comments : Fantastic prog goth from Austria ! Imagine a progressive Gathering, with DUAL female vox, with fantastic musicianship, great keys (ranging from leads to symphonic to atmospheric) and guitar solos ... Their album Komödia (released by Hall of Sermon, the label of Lacrimosa's Tilo Wolff) is a concept album based (as one might expect) on Dante's 'Divine Comedy' ... Need I say that the band writes great lyrics too ? ;o)

Dream Theater
  1. Itchy's Under A Cyber Moon (best DT site!)
  2. The Official DT Homepage
Comments : There's "nothing left to say" about DT, I guess ... I don't think there's any progmetal fan in this world who doesn't like them ... I like them too, of course, but if they continue in Falling Into Infinity's direction I doubt that I'll be buying any more of their albums ...

Echolyn
  1. The echolyn Homepage
Comments : Cool US progressive rockers ... Unfortunately, the band broke up so the ex-members of echolyn have other musical projects right now, ex-echolyn keyboarder Chris Buzby now being a member of Finneus Gauge Anyway, I consider their album As The World one of the most interesting and thoughtful progrock albums I've heard... Check out this site for a deeper look at the lyrical subtlety of echolyn and plenty of other info about these guys...

Eternity X
Comments : Great US progressive metal band ... The site is maintained by Eternity X's vocalist/lyricist, Keith Sudano ... A great site and a great band ... beautiful music, superb lyrics , fabulous musicianship and a great deal of emotion and diversity displayed by these guys ... Another great prog band !

Fates Warning
  1. Mike Kizer's 'Island In The Stream'
  2. The Fates Warning News Desk
  3. The Official Fates Warning Homepage (crap site!)
Comments : Truly one of progmetal's giants , Fates Warning has been delivering its innovating approach to music for almost 15 years now ... And, after all that time , they still kick ass ! :)

The Gathering
  1. The Gathering Homepage
Comments : Here's a band that has managed to put out great albums and still change their style from album to album ... The last two releases are with Anneke van Giersbergen , one of my fave female vocalists (yes, I know , I know... I have a thing for female vox ... ;) They're all fave to me ... :) ) ... Beautiful music, slight gothic sound, LOTS of feeling, and great vocal lines ...

Heaven's Cry
  1. The Unofficial Heaven's Cry Homepage
Comments : Oh yes ! Heaven's Cry, Canada's answer to the world of progmetal, finally have a homepage ... These guys play very complex , yet quite catchy heavy progmetal, but with quite a few progrock influences thrown in ... This stuff will have to grow on you , I'm sure , but once it does, you'll never be able to get this thing out of your player anymore :o) ... Food For Thought Substitute is already a classic, imo... Anyway, check out the site for some sound samples, if you haven't heard Heaven's Cry yet, lyrics, bios and plenty of other stuff , including the possibility to contact guitarist/vocalist Pierre St. Jean ...

Lacrimosa
  1. Jonas' Lacrimosa Homepage
Comments : The Band of Tilo Wolff, a musical genius from Switzerland, who together with Anne Nurmi created last year a monumental album, one of the most fascinating musical experiences I've had ... The thing is called 'Stille' and I would describe it as bombastic, symphonic dark-wave gothic metal , with some shades of prog ... Anyway, check out the site and, PLEASE, do yourself a favor and don't let the looks of Tilo put you off !

Leger de Main
  1. The Official Leger de Main Homepage
Comments : US progrock band , with influences ranging from Rush to fusion... Melissa Blair's great vocals, together with the top-notch musicianship by the Rodler brothers (Chris on guitars & keys and Brent on drums) and the band's great songwriting skills make this one of the best progrock bands I've heard...

Leviathan
  1. The Official Leviathan Homepage
Comments : Another great US progmetal band ... One of the greatest vocalists I've ever heard (Jeff Ward) , tight and hooky songwriting, fantastic lyrics make this band truly a winner ... Check out their latest album, Scoring The Chapters or 72 minutes of unique progressive metal with excellent introspective lyrics...

Nightwish
  1. The Official Nightwish Homepage
Comments : Great Finnish gothic metal band... As their fellow gothic metallers, Dreams
of Sanity, they released their debut album ( Angels Fall First ) last year... This band adds a whole new dimension to the term "operatic vocals", because their lead singer Tarja is a well-trained opera singer :) ... The combination works amazingly well, though, and this young band is amongst my favorite gothic metal bands , for sure... I'm looking forward to their next releases !

Payne's Gray
  1. Dream Sequence - The Payne's Gray Homepage
Comments : Fantastic progmetal from Germany... Their album Kadath Decoded is inspired by a novel of H.P. Lovecraft and contains the band's unique interpretation of the book... One of the most original and diverse albums I've ever heard...

Royal Hunt
  1. The Official Royal Hunt Homepage
Comments : Superb neoclassical progmetal... Great singer, awesome keyboarder (one of the best in this genre, Andre Andersen) and fantastic female background vox are the trademarks of this band...

Shadow Gallery
  1. The Shadow Gallery Homepage
Comments : One of the greatest prog bands to come out since DT... Every guy in this band is a fantastic musician , and together, they create some powerful , emotional, epic stuff , mixing technique and feeling really well ... Aside from being great musicians and great people , they also maintain this site themselves, so... check it out ;)

Spock's Beard
  1. The Thoughts Homepage (best SB site!)
  2. The Official Spock's Beard Homepage
Comments : Great US progrock band ... Shades of Pink Floyd, ELO, Yes, Genesis in their music, but still plenty of originality ... These guys can rock :)

Symphony X
  1. The Symphony X Homepage
Comments : Guitar wizard Mike Romeo's band ... Their first 2 records have a neo-classical Yngwie feel to them (don't get me wrong, though ... The Damnation Game is still a masterpiece ! ) and their new one ... well, it's one of my favorite 1997 albums :o) .... I can only say that they've matured a lot, the keys play a bigger role in the music now (Mike Pinella kicks ass :) ) , and they managed to create both one of the best songs ( the title song, The Divine Wings Of Tragedy ) and one of the best albums I've heard in a while ... So, uhm... move over, DT :)

The Third And The Mortal
  1. Tor's The Third And The Mortal Homepage
  2. Another The Third And The Mortal Page
  3. Tor's Unofficial Kari Rueslatten Homepage
Comments : Well... what can I say about these guys ? Their first two albums (the EP Sorrow and Tears Laid In Earth) feature Kari Rueslatten , who has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard in my life ... The music is a bit meancholic and depressive, centering on Kari's amazing vocals , with the 3 guitarists creating a perfect wall of sound, combining doomy riffs with progressive structures and a lot of acoustic stuff ... Unbelievable music ! After those albums , Kari left the band and went solo ... and TATM lost their magic, imo ...

Time Machine
  1. The Time Machine Homepage
Comments : I only have Act II : Galileo by these guys and it's a GREAT album ... One of my fave prog-metal albums ... Plenty of time changes, an awesome singer, great atmosphere... and the lyrics and concept of the album are great too :) Their other efforts aren't that good, though, from what I've heard ...

Reignstorm
  1. The Reignstorm Website

Waiting for Dawn
  1. The Waiting for Dawn Homepage
Comments : Formerly known as Carpe Noctem, these guys play a very interesting mixture of prog, power and dark doomy goth metal... They just released a new demo called Shadowbox, so if you like it dark and heavy be sure to give them a try ...
