COMBESTONE TOR Combestone Tor stands on top of a hill overlooking the valley of the River Dart. Underlying Dartmoor is a giant mass of granite rock , which was created by the cooling of volcanic lava between 309 and 290 million years ago. Tors are formed by ice and water erosion wearing away the surrounding landscape leaving the harder underlying rock exposed. They are a distinctive feature of the Dartmoor landscape and make a good place to stand to view the surrounding countryside (which Drake H3 frequently does on its hashes).
