CADOVER BRIDGE

Cadover Bridge is situated
on a shallow part of the River Plym which in the past was used
as a fording point. A stone clapper bridge also occupied this
location. Today the bridge carries one of the main roads across
the moor. The name 'Cadover' is thought to originate from 'Caed'
- the old English word for a place of battle. A large car park
stands nearby, and in summer the river bank is a popular place
for picnics. Getting a decent spot can be quite a battle - which
could be how the place got its name in the first place. Cadover
Bridge is the starting point of many hashes, which usually involve
at least one wade across the river.
