The Stray Dogg Band
History of the Doggs

The Stray Dogg Band is a south-central Indiana based roots rock trio. Forming in Freetown, Indiana in the winter of 1999 the Stray Dogg band has only one original member.

Roger Smith the bands bass player and truck driver had a dream to one day bring honky-tonk back to the masses. He formed with guitarists Barry Clark and Bubba Mullins in a private clubhouse called the Dogghouse. He and Barry performed their favorite music to a drum machine for a couple of months before hiring long time bar room veteran John Crane. Along with John came many guitarists. Among the legends came players such as Jack Fish, Matt Buckner, and Darrick Day.

After a winter and spring of rehearsal, what was known as the "Dogghouse Band," set out for a gig. Shortly thereafter the band broke apart into two segments. The Dogghouse Band became, "The Stray Doggs" and "Rawmoth."

With gigs at stake John Crane called up long time buddy and working musician, Don Pedigo. Along with Matt Buckner the freshly orchestrated Stray Dogg Band began sweeping Jackson County by storm. Many other players floated in and out of the scene such as; Seymour Acuff on fiddle, "Charlie," the cardiac steel picker, Jon Vinceint on blues harp, and Don Klaes (running down your street naked) on the keys.

As funny as the story may seem the Stray Dogg Band has made it's way into the semi-professional world of gigging. They play three or four times a month. This year they've backed up hoosier native, Larry Crane, combined with other musicians to back Don Pedigo at Kornstock, and several private events. Don Pedigo, Roger Smith, and John Crane are rock -n- roll baby!
