Mull Historical Society Interview

Here we have cornered various music types and interrogated them donkey-stylee...with utterly useless questions. Hell yeah.

Our interview with Colin Macintyre, otherwise known as the one and only Mull Historical Society. Yum.

Hello Colin!
1) So, after a busy summer, what's now and next for
the Society?
WELL, I'M TRYING TO COMPLETE MY SECOND ALBUM. I'VE RECORDED OVER 30 TRACKS, AND NOW I'M TRYING TO FINNISH THE PRODUCTION/MIXING. THERE WILL BE A SINGLE IN JANUARY AND THENM THE ALBUM WILL FOLLOW SHORTLY AFTER. IT'S CALLED "Us" AND I'M REALLY HAPPY WITH HOW IT SOUNDS - JUST NEED TO DECIDE WHICH SONGS GO ON IT - NOT AN EASY TASK. THEN MUCH TOURING..

2) Concerning the rabbit ears you wore at this year's
festivals (And we were devestated to find out they
weren't donkey ears...)...what inspired that??!!
I HAD A RABBIT SUIT AND EARS MADE FOR THE "WATCHING XANADU" VIDEO. I WAS A HUMAN RABBIT AT A DOG RACING TRACK, AND ENDED UP CHASING A GIRL THROUGH LONDON UNDERGROUND ETC. IT WAS EXHAUSTING, GOT A FEW ODD LOOKS. IT WAS A REALLY BIG WEEKEND AT THE DOG TRACK, WALTHAMSTOWE IN LONDON, WITH VINNY JONES AND OTHER CELEBS SPONSORING RACES - I WAS THE BETWEEN-RACE ENTERTAINMENT - UNBEKNOWN TO THEM AND THE CROWD WAS THAT WE WERE FILMING THE VIDEO. I DECIDED THE EARS MIGHT BE A LAUGH TO WEAR AT SOME OF THE FESTIVALS OVER THE SUMMER - HELPS WITH THE HEARING ON STAGE...

3) Are you aware that you are now considered somewhat
of a sex symbol???
WITH OR WITHOUT THE EARS! I DOUBT IT, I JUST GET ON WITH MY MUSIC, ANYTHING ELSE AROUND IT IS JUST PERIPHERY TO WHAT I DO - I'M A VERY SERIOUS SEX-SYMB...I MEAN, MUSICIAN!

4) What bands inspired you as a youth?
BEATLES. AND MY UNCLES COVERS BAND ON MULL. I DIN'T REALLY FOLLOW TOO MANY BANDS. AS I'VE GOT OLDER I APPRECIATE MORE MUSIC - FROM CLASSICAL TO ALL-SORTS

5) Do you feel that in any way, growing up on such a
remote island as Mull has affected the person you are?
YES. EVERYONES' ENVIRONMENT AFFECTS HOW THEY ARE. MY ISLAND UPBRINGING GIVES ME A STRONG IDENTITY IN THE SENSE THAT I CAN APPRECIATE WHAT IT IS TO LOOK AT THINGS FROM THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN. I PROBABLY WOULDN'T APPROACH MY MUSIC THE WAY I DO HAD I NOT GROWN UP THERE. IT WASN'T VERY CONVENTIONAL, BUT IT WAS ALL ME AND MY FRIENDS KNEW. I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT NOT TO DO THINGS JUST BECAUSE IT'S WHAT PEOPLE TELL YOU TO DO OR WHAT YOU THINK OTHER PEOPLE ARE DOING - DO THINGS YOUR WAY. SOMEHOW MY UPBRINGING SEEMS RELEVANT TO THAT, BUT WHO KNOWS. I LIKE CITIES ALSO.

6) Which is your favourite place you've visited so
far?
NEW YORK. IT ALREADY HAS, AND I THINK WILL, BECOME A REALLY SPECIAL PLACE TO ME. IT WAS REALLY EXCITING TO BE THERE PROMOTING MY RECORD - IT WOULD SEEM LIKE A DREAM EXCEPT IT ALL FELT SO REAL - I'VE HAD TOO MANY CAGNEY & LACEY EPISODES I THINK..

7) Where/how do you see yourself when you're "old" and
the parties over????
WRITING SOMEWHERE IN MY HOUSE NEAR THE BEACH. TRYING TO MAKES SENSE OF ALL THE THINGS I WRITE THAT DONT GET INTO MY SONGS. PROBABLY WEARING MY RABBIT'S EARS AND TRYING NOT TO MAKE TOO MANY DROPPINGS..

8) Who are the people that keep you sane on the lonely
road as a "one man band"?
THE PEOPLE CLOSE TO ME. AND PILOTS WITH A REASURRING MANNER.

9) What's your poison?
CURRENTLY, VODKA, LIME AND LEMONADE.

10) Aaaaaaaaaand finally, you've met the all-famous
donkey. He was very pleased. Care to leave your own message for him? Go on...
DONT SUCCUMB TO THE BLACKPOOL BEACH TOURISM FAST-BUCK, STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF.
CHEERS!
