Feeling peaceful and secure, I entered the intersection of Sunset and
Gibson when my light turned green on 01-25-01. It was a quiet evening, and
there didn't seem to be much traffic. As I neared the far side of the
intersection, I sensed movement out of the corner of my right eye, and realized
there were moving headlights. I had just enough time consider the oddness of
that when I heard/felt an impact to my car. I knew right away, the movement I
had sensed was a vehicle traveling into me with impressive force. I never heard
squealing tires, so I believe the vehicle hit me without slowing it's speed.
How fast? Who knows, but it was fast enough to change everything for me that
night. So the next thing I experienced was this rush of sparkling glass. Like
an explosion scene in a movie, everything was moving in slow motion. Thousands
of little sparkly glass pieces rush past me. I new my car had just taken a big
hit, and I would probably be injured. My car now is on a new course, one that I
have no input in determining. The impact is over, and I don't feel any pain. As
I'm still looking through the windshield I see that I'm actually up in the air,
and where this car is going I don't know, but there are two poles coming at me,
so I will wait till everything stops to see if I feel ok. A moment of silence
as my car spins through the air, unaffected by anything in it's new directions.
The car lands, and just as quickly as the slow motion started for me, life
begins raging on at full speed. I take a little inventory of myself, and I seem
to be ok. I notice the car is still running, so I turn the ignition off. I look
up and see and see the driver of the other car coming toward me. So I guess God
let me live this time, and her too. We were both in our vehicle by ourselves,
I'm so glad I don't have to go to any funerals, or visit my friends in the
hospital, or push their wheelchairs. My seatbelt saved my life I believe, and
left a rash on my hip to prove it.
