Destroyer
Class: Robot

Affiliations: Creation of Odin

Scale of Operations: Asgard

Occupation: The Ultimate weapon of Asgard

Powers: The Destroyer is a phenomenally powerful construct of virtually unlimited strength, invulnerability, and power. The robot can control matter (including manipulation on the molecular level) and generate and control plasma and energy, particularly infrared, electrical, and magnetic forces. The Destroyer's most formidable weapon is the disintegration beam released from its visor, capable of annihilating all substances known to man.

The Destroyer is built to house a life spirit, and remains inert unless animated by such. It is composed of an unknown metal of Asgardian origin and enchanted by Odin to be even harder than adamantium or uru. Ordinarily standing 6.5 feet tall, it grew to a height over 2000 feet when animated by the life forces of most Asgardian gods.

Designed with its own rudimentary intelligence and personality, the robot remained inert unless animated by a user projecting his life force into the robot shell. Only those with great mystical powers would be able to assert control over the robot's personality, such as Odin, Loki, and Thor.

History: The Destroyer is an enchanted suit of armor in humanoid form created by Odin, lord of extradimensional Asgard, to be that realm's ultimate weapon. Odin created it to be used against the world-judging Celestials, whom he encountered over 1,000 years ago and foresaw their return, believing the Celestials would destroy humanity should they fail judgement. Odin concealed the armor within g a temple he built concealed in a plateau in far-off Indochina, hoping it would be out of reach from those who would misuse it. There it remained until recently.

Odin's adopted son, Loki, seeking vengeance against Odin's true son, Thor, destroyed the plateau and arranged for Buck Franklin, a hunter, to unwittingly activated the armor and battle Thor. After defeating the Destroyer, Thor demolished the temple, burying the armor within. Later, while in exile, Loki projected his consciousness into the Destroyer and used in to unsuccessfully attack Odin. The Destroyer was next animated by the goddess Sif, caught in a plot by Loki and Karnilla, the Norn Queen.

Professor Clement Holmes accidentally became the fourth to animate the Destroyer. At this time, Thor was unaware of the Destroyer's true purpose, and in exchange for Firelord's freedom as Galactus' herald, he gave the armor to Galactus to use in his place. Galactus found the Destroyer useless and did not miss it when Loki stole it, employing first Balder, the Thor himself as the animating force.

By this time, the Celestials arrived, and Odin decided the time had come to use the Destroyer at last. he drew the life forces of all the Asgardians (wiht the exception of th absent Thor) into himself, the projected the combined lifeforeces into the armor, who know weilded the enormous Odinsword. Invading the Celestials base, the powerful Destroyer was still unable to inflict even slight damage against the Celestials. The Celestials reduced the armor to slag which set adrift the Asgardian life forces, although they were soon restored with the help of Thor and others of Earth's pantheons.

Years later, the Destroyer was reactivated by Siggorth, an Asgardian frost giant. The Destroyer came across the comatose remains of Thor, who had at this time a curse which rendered him incapable of dying. The Destroyer robot, failing at destroying Thor, decided to reject Siggorth and absorb Thor's life force so that it would remain truly indestructible. Thor took control of the robot, however, and used it to attack the underworld's ruler, Hela, who had placed the curse on him. Hela lifted the curse and restored Thor's body. Thor promptly sealed the armor within virtually unbreakable crystal so that it could not be reanimated for evil purposes, leaving it in Hela's realm to serve as a reminder of her promise to Thor, never to take a soul of Earth's mortals.
