Fourth Generation

Jonathan4 (Job3, John2, John1) Milk born 9 March 1728, Dartmouth, MA, and died in Washington, NY. He married Mercy Trowbridge (Strowbridge, Strobridge), daughter of Ruth Lawton and John Trowbridge (Strowbridge, Strobridge) on 30 Nov 1747. Mercy was born 30 Nov 1726 in Newport, RI; and died in Easton, Washington, NY.
Note: There is a genealogy of Mercy Trowbridge included in "History and Genealogy of the Milk-Milks Family" by Grace Croft.

Children of Jonathan and Mercy:
  • Job Milk born about 1748.
  • Thirteen years after the name Job Milk, Jr. disappears from the Tax Lists of Dutchess Co., the name again appears (1775) in Amenia."
  • Benjamin Milk born about 1750.
  • David Milk born 1752; died 15 Jun 1806.
  • Lemuel Milk born 1753.
  • Rebecca born 18 Mar 1759; died on 24 Mar 1843.
  • George Milk born 1762.
  • Jonathan Milk born 1769.
Note: at the time of publication of her book, Ms. Croft had found no documentation proving the above children were Jonathan and Mercy Milk's. She felt that there were probably more children, daughters who may have married into Crandall, Benson and other Easton families.
If anyone has found any evidence of more children, during their research, I would appreciate hearing from you.

From a letter from Saloma and Benjamin to Sarah Milks Benson in 1862:
"We are trying to get a living in Iowa. We have had very good luck since we came here. We bought 40 acres of land and paid for it, and 8 cows. They did very well and made aplenty of butter and cheese for our family and some to sell. Keeping stock is our chief business. We have 14 cows. We have 40 head of cattle in all, and a very nice horse and aplenty of hogs and poultry...We have a place that suits me very well for this country. It has a nice little grove around the house, aplenty of wild plums and grapes close to the house. We have raised aplenty of grain to sell every year...I feel very lonesome..when I left Nancy Maria I left all the girl I had. It makes me unhappy and I cannot help it. I have her second boy with me. He seems very near to me, as he was born to our house and used to live with me a great deal before we left there. I think they will come here sometime, but I cannot tell when. She has four more boys to home with her..." (Saloma)
"I like this country first rate...I want to know if you let your mind travel back to York State. It is fresh in my memory. When Mary Jane and Nancy Maria were with us when I think back to tell the truth the west is a lone place to me but the rest likes it first rate and I go with the crowd..." (Benjamin)
