The links did not work properly yesterday because of an error on my part.  Everything should work properly
    now.

As you probably know by now, I have added a VX-5R page to the site.  Things will remain the same for the
VX-1R page (updates when needed), and as new information on the VX-5R becomes available, I will post
it in the NEW VX-5R page.  I don't own a VX-5R yet, and if anyone knows where I can get a good deal
    on one, email me

If you have any more information on new mods for the VX--5R, email me

Wow, I just realized that this web page is 1 year old.  Its really grown from a year ago.  I never thought
that there would be this much information for the worlds smallest dual-band radios.  The VX-1R came
out about 2 years ago, and we have learned so much about this little marvel of electronic engineering.

A few tidbits about the VX-5R.  After receiving a few emails reguarding the new VX-5R to keep everyone
up to date.  Has Yaesu finally fixed the CTCSS scanning in the VX-5R??? Well maybe.  From the two emails
I've gotten so far from VX-5R users, both state the CTCSS scanning worked fine on their VX-5R(#8L010478).
The reception is better on the VX-5R compared to the VX-1R including the HF frequencies.  Still no mods for the
    VX-5R as of today.

Some very important information for  AllowAnyBand modification.  I have left out some very important information
    For more details Click here.

I will be creating a cellular RDF file that can be "merged" into a new RDF file.  This will be handy for for Firmware
A106 (which is cellular blocked forever).I was thinking of putting a few cellular limits into the search limits.  Here's my
thinking:  there are 5 search limits to work with.  Use one for each cellular carriers (i.e. Ameritech and Cellular One).
Use one more for both carriers.  My question is:  does anyone need the digital control channels for monitoring and
decoding SIN & ESN's?  I will be creating one file for everyone to DL. I will not custom create RDF files for anyone -
as it would take too much of my time.

After defraging my HD, the ADMS-1D reported that it wasn't installed properly and would only run as a DEMO!?
I wished they would spend as much time in producing a quality program as they did in their copy protection scheme.
Is RT system that worried about piracy?  I guess.

WOW, its been a long time since the last update!  Sorry about that folks, but I was in the process of moving
and had no time to update.  Since the last update, there has been lots of new information and Yaesu introduced
the new VX-5R not long ago.

The VX-5 is Yaesu's newest Tri-Band radio which covers the 6meter, 2meter and 70 centimeter bands!  From
all indications, the VX-5R seems to be a combination of the FT-50 and the VX-1R.  The power (5 watts) and
functions of the FT-50, and the size and battey of the VX-1R.  This new radio comes with a Li-ion 7.2V @1100mAh
    and 1 hour charger.  The first shipment of these VX-5R came with the same problem as the VX-1R suffers from;
the ctcss not opening properly during scanning.  I don't know why Yaesu hasn't found a solution to this chronic
problem that seems to be like a plague in their new radios.  I don't think Yaesu sees this as a real problem because
in fact their radios are "HAM RADIOS" and NOT "scanners - with the ability to transmit".  If you want a scanner
that scans CTCSS and DCS(DPL), then think about the RELM line of scanners.  It would be nice if the CTCSS
worked properly in the VX-5R, but that would not stop me from buying one.  Because if you wait till they fix this
problem in the VX-5R - your going to be waiting a very long time and may never get one.  Yaesu never fixed the
same problem in the VX-1R after 6 firmware revisions(almost 2 years and still waiting).  I would probably wait until
l the second firmware revision in the VX-5R before I purchased one though.

MAC users can read this, others can disregard.  I've been told if you own a MAC and some software called Virtual PC,
you can run and use the ADMS-1D VX-1R programming software!  A mini-din to DB9 converter must be used to connect
the programming cable to your MAC.  This converter might be available pre-made, or you can build one your self.  Below
is the pin-outs for the mini-din to DB9 connector:
    DB9    Mini-din
    2            5
    3            3
    4            1
    8            2
    5            4+8

Radio Shack sells an Edge Connector Cleaner (Catalog # 64-4340) that is excellent for cleaning the battery contacts
of the VX-1R and most other radios.  It's like those gold metallic pens, but with cleaner solution instead of ink.  This
    thing works great.

ADMS-1D programming software have a Y2K bug in it?  I'm not sure for sure if it does or doesn't, but RT Systems
is coming out with a "new version" that is Y2K safe.  Does this mean that all of their other programs have a potential
Y2K bug in it.  This is still to be determined.  Anyone out there know for sure? Email me if you do.

If you program in low power setting in any memory channel, pressing FW before you key-up makes the VX-1R trans-
mit in high power mode for that key-up.  On the next key-up the radio reverts back to low power unless you press the
    FW key again.

DAYTON99 is only 4 1/2 months away.  As usual it will be held at the Hara Arena on May 14,15,16.  For more
information, go to the official Dayton Hamvention Webpage

I hope everyone has had a great Holiday Season, and best wishes in the New Year.  Who knows just what might
happen in 1999.  A new VX-5R page?  Termination of the VX-1R page?  The questions are endless, and answers
    will be found this year!

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!

If you are currently using an older copy of the ADMS-1D programming software versions 1.03 and earlier,
there is an update patch that corrects when you attempt to move memories in the Memory View Listbox with
the Move Up and Move Down buttons. The memories appear to move correctly but the software could actually
be placing the memories in bands that are different from the band displayed. The  patch (available from RT Systems)
also fixes the problem of not being able to open file after they have been saved.  If your are using or planning
to use the "Template Modifier32", I recommend applying this patch.

A word about RT Systems (AMDS-1D):  I've received many complaints about RT Systems (distributers of the
ADMS-1D programming software) not supporting or caring about the many bugs in their software.  Their responce
to many who have problems with the ADMS-1D is: "don't bother us with your problems and go out and buy the
latest version if you want it to work right".  Applying the patch they made does correct some of the problems
associated with the ADMS-1D software, and I must commend RT Systems for at least fixing the major problems.
but some problems still exist even after the update patch.  You can get this patch from RT Systems software update page.

There still seems the problem with the VX-1R transmitting 10-15Kc off center frequency.  If your radio has these
synptons, you must sent the radio back to Yaesu to have the CPU board changed.  This seems to be a manufactures
defect on a small percentage of the radios on the market.  Yaesu seems very willing to get these defective radio fixed
and returned to the customer fast.  There is nothing else that will fix this problem except for sending it in for the new
CPU board.  The new CPU Yaesu installs is the latest firmware(A106 i believe) - which has much improved AM reception,
but looses the ability to be cell moded.  This is also covered under the manufactures warrenty for the repair.

For the next month or so, I will be in the process of moving and will not have the computer set up for awhile.
So there will be no way for me to check my email.  So....... if your email goes unanswered, you know why.

Updated the Template Modifier page to clarify some details.  If you use the Template Modifier32, please check
    it out.

It has been brought to my attention that VX-1R with Firmware A106 starts blocking the cell frequencies at
865Mhz instead of 869Mhz. The cellular 800 Mhz band starts at 869Mhz and goes to 894Mhz.  For some
reason the yaesu engineers designed the radio to include 865 to 869Mhz in the cellular blocking range.  There
are some new digital cellular phones that use these frequencies, but there is no way of decoding these digital
transmissions on the VX-1R.  But also there are trunking frequencies - which is perfectly legal to listen to, are
also blocked.  Here's my guess on why Yaesu decided to block these digital phone/trunking frequencies in the new
VX-1R's (865 to 869Mhz).  With faster and faster PC coming on the market, software emulation and software
decoders are becoming common place.  Sooner or later someone will come up with a easy way of hooking up a
receiver to the  COM port and use some software decoder to listen to any digital transmission.  It's possible
do decode MDT's, pagers, cellular ESN's and SIN's with almost any soundcard.  With a digital output from
the VX-1R or any 800Mhz receiver, digital interception becomes very possible.  So Yaesu probably wanted
to be on the "safe" side and deleted these frequencies also.  The encryption used in these digital phones is
fairly weak, and if it hasn't been broken yet, it will be soon.

I have been working on a way to get cellular and those missing trunking frequencies to work with Firmware
A106.  A fellow operator with firmware A106 sent me his current RDF file and I was able to download his
RDF file to my VX-1R (firmware A105) using the ADMS-1D software.  I then manually entered the trunking
frequencies that were blocked from the factory in his radio. I'm able to manually enter in any cellular frequency
or blocked trunking frequency in my VX-1R because I have A105 - which can be cellular modified.  He was able
to upload the RDF file I modified to his VX-1R (A106).  We tried to enter a cellular freq in the scan limit bank,
but that for some reason didn't work.  So basically if you know someone with A105 or earlier and its modified
for cell, you can use it to get those "LOST" frequencies in your A106 firmware VX-1R. Stay tuned for further
updates.  Don't send me your RDF files for modification, because I won't do it as of yet - if ever.

This page hasn't been updated for some time because there hasn't been much to update.

Added  FT3000 modification.  You can find it and others here by clicking here..

9/28/98

Added a parts values for the PC Programming cable.  There seemed to some confusion about what transistors
and diodes are to be used.

Updated the Disclaimer - does anyone ever read these?

9/22/98

Updated the Template Modifier page with MARS/CAP instructions as well as FREEBAND modification.

I've been receiving many good reports on the Comet SMA503 dual band antenna.  If you are unsatisfied with the
performance of the stock antenna, get the Comet SMA503.  It has a much greater bandwidth - great for in-band
    and out-of-band RX/TX

About a week ago, my computer took a major dump and I had to reformat the HD.  I was able to save most
of my unanswered email, but some got deleted.  If you sent me something and haven't gotten a response from me,
your email got deleted - please resend.  It took awhile to get things back back up and running, but I'm up and running
    100%.

The DC power plugs are gone and I have removed the information from the Hints, Tricks, Tips page.

If your having problems with your radio going out-of-lock (scanning halted/display blinking) when scanning
UHF and VHF (AllowAnyBand=1 modification), try scanning in the "down" direction instead of scanning
up.  No matter what I did to the VX-1R (A105), it would always go out of lock when scanning different
bands, until I reversed the scanning direction.  Then it worked fine.

If you have Microsoft Word on your computer, type in "I'd like to see Bill Gates dead", highlight it, and
press Shift and F7 and see that the thesaurus says.

PLEASE, if you email me, make sure your return email address is correct and if contains anit-spam text or
anything like that, let me know.  It really sucks when I spend time researching some problem and respond
only to find the return address doesn't exist.

8/30/98

Added a source for the 4 conductor plugs for interfacing the PC with the VX-1R

Thanks for all the feedback on the Palm Pilot reference.  The response was great.  I just wasn't sure what it really
was or did - seeing as I don't own a Palm Pilot.  If someone would like to send me a Palm Pilot I would greatly
    appreciate it - Thanks

8/29/98

Added about 50 various Yaesu modifications.  These are all the yaesu mods I have.  If you don't see it on the page,
    I don't have it.

8/27/98

This web site was down due to a server problem.  Everything should be fine now.

8/24/98

    Added a 12V to 6.2V power supply for the VX-1R.  It's regulated at 600mA

More corrections/clarifications on the PC cable.  R4 (122K) is a precision resistor and is hard to find.  You
can use anything above 100K and everything will work fine.  Also the ground pin on the schematic has been
corrected.  It showed the ground on the db9 connector as being pin 6 - when it's really pin 5.

Palm Pilot Command Reference for the VX-1R.  If you own a Palm Pilot let me know what this one does.

Added a few odds-and-ends on the  Hints-Tips-Tricks Page

You want to see a pic of my desktop?

8/5/98
Made a few clarifications to the PC Cable.

8/1/98

Added the pinout for the DB25 and DB9 serial connector for those who are making their own PC programming
    cable and some other stuff.

7/29/98

Correction for the PC Cable:  R4 should be 122K, not 12.4K.  This cable will not work unless R4 is the
correct value.  I have corrected the schematic. You can also check out the pin-out for the  4-conductor
    speaker-mic/clone/programming plug.

Some people have been having problems with the AllowAnyBand=1 modification.  I have updated the page a bit
with some new information.  Be sure to CHECK IT OUT

7/21/98

New page added:  Factroy Accessories for the VX-1R

    Pin-out for the 4-conductor speaker-mic/clone cable.

Make sure you check out the "Hints, Tricks & Tips" page for Miscellaneous information on the VX-1R

7/18/98

New page added:  After market antennas for the VX-1R.  If you desire better TX and RX check out these antennas.

7/6/98

Added transmitting power levels chart page  See how much power the VX-1R puts out in and outside
the Ham bands.  You can check it out here

Upgraded my system with a P200 mmx and Windows98.  Everything seems to be working great so far.
Also formated the HD - It's great having a clean system again.  I can't believe it, but I almost filled 8.4 Gigs
of HD space before formatting.  I don't think I've lost any email, but its possable.  If you haven't gotten a
responce, please re email me.  Thanks

OK, its official now.  That was a new version of the Template modifier.  It now supports the FT-50R!
In addition to the FT-50R support it also:
*I trimmed the code down so that it takes less space, and more efficient.
*Added a few visual changes, and disclaimer!
*Mars/Cap support (only for supported VX-1R Firmware)
       *Freeband Support (like before)
If your running into problems running the Template Modifier because it can't find the correct drivers (Msvbvm50.dll)
    Go to:   http://www.sns-access.com/~netpro/vb5.htm.

ATTENTION A106 FIRMWARE USERS - does mars/cap modification work on your VX-1R.  Either soldering
the mars/cap jumper or software modification.  EMAIL ME

Was that really a new version of the Template Modifier32?  Many have emailed me saying that it's the
same as their older version.  The file/open template is different, the icon is different, but the date is the
same...........Hmmmmmmmm.   I took the new template file and name it the same as the older version and
confused many people - sorry bout that.  I won't do it again.  Also note:  the Template Modifier is
still in beta - it only supports FREEBAND modification - no Mars/Cap yet.

IIf you want to software mod your VX-1R for MARS/CAP, you have to Hex Edit your template

Added a Hints, Tricks, Tips page.  Not much there yet.

Dayton98 Hamvention is over.  I survived my 5th trip to Dayton Ohio for the annual Hamvention.  I had a
GREAT time.  Got to say hello to Hugh VE3AYR - author of the pocket VX-1R reference book, and Wayne WS8RM
also stopped by with QSL card and world globe.  Thanks guys!  I counted about 30 to 50 people using the VX-1R down
in Dayton - I was really surprises to see so many VX-1R users using the radio.  Even with 600mw output, it's enough
to keep in contact with others at such a huge event with thousands of higher powered HT and mobiles in close vicinity
to the VX-1R.  There were only a few used VX-1R's for sale in the flea market, and many vendors sold out of the VX-1R
and accessories late Saturday.  I overheard someone talking about some mysterious vendor selling the VX-1R for $209.95,
I didn't see it for that price or really believe it.  New VX-1R's were in the $249.95 to $289.95 range.  Don't ask me to
remember who had it for $249.95, because with so much going on there, I can't recall.  Anyhow....as usual Radio Free
America jammers (or something like that)  were jamming the Dayton Hamvention Talk-In repeater system again this year
with malicious interference.  The person doing some of the jamming was located in the hotel I was staying at.  I know
this because I picked them up on my Optoelectronics Scout a few times.  They also hit my VX-1R at full signal strength
    on the input frequency.

New Page on Disassembling the VX-1R.  If you need to disassemble the VX-1R to replace the worn out keypad
    you will need this information.

Hugh VE3AYR produces a Pocket Reference for the VX-1R.  This reference has tons of useful information for
quick reference.  With so many features the Vx-1R has, its sometimes easy to forget how to program something
or scan for a PL tone.  This is why the reference book is a must have accessory for the VX-1R.  For more information
on how to get this Pocket Reference Click Here

After doing some quick research, I have come to the conclusion that many people are using outdated web browsers.
    i.e. Netscape 1.0 2.0, 3.0 & Internet Explorer 2, 3.0, 3.01.  Why?????  These Web Browsers are FREE to download!
I get some requests for information that had been added to the web site, but older web browsers don't  automatically
update/refresh web pages, and these people are looking at the pages cashed on their hard drive and do not see the updates
made.  Current web browsers(8 months or newer) automatically update or refresh web pages every time you go to a
different page.   If you are running an archaic web browser, you have to press the refresh or reload button to get the
latest  information each time you go to a different page.

If you use your VX-1R outside the 2m, 70cm bands, consider the Comet SMA503 (150/450Mhz) antenna instead
of the stock antenna.  This antenna will resonate better in the commercial bands.

Dayton98 Hamvention is here!  That's where I'll be for the next few day.  I have no way of getting my email
during this time, so any email sent won't be responded until May 19 or 20 at the earliest.  I'm sharing booth 1519 with
a good friend of mine - so stop by if you get a chance.  Going to take a digital camera down with me, and will post some
    choice photo's from the event.

If your having problems downloading anything from this site, try this:  Hold the shift key down while clicking on the file.

Some people have been having problems viewing and printing the Cheat Sheets in Microsoft Word.  I guess we can
blame it on Mr. Bill Gates.  Because of this, I have converted them to .jpg and .bmp formats.  They should be easier
for some to work with.  You can download the new ones here.

If your having problems with the ADMS-1D software, template modifier, or downloads and you email me, please
    include the following:  1) What Operating System (i.e Win95)   2) CPU    3)Web Browser (i.e. Netscape 4.0, I.E 4.0)
    4) any peripherals (i.e. sound cards, CD's, 3D cards).  Thanks.

Hugh VE3AYR produces a Pocket Reference for the VX-1R.  This would be useful when at Hamfests and you forgot
how to add a DCS tone so you can chat with your buddies for example.  Just pull out you Pocket Reference and
your up and talking in no time!  For further details, Check out their Homepage

Many folks from outside the United States have inquired about purchasing the ADMS-1D software and PC cable.
Until now, I haven't had any links to RT Systems, Inc.(makers of the ADMS-1D software) on my Web Pages because
of a few reasons I will not go into now.  For more information on how to purchase the ADMS-1D, CLICK HERE
to go to RT Systems Homepage.

5/1/98

Added a schematic for the ADMS-1D PC programming cable.  Many folks have been inquiring about making
one for themselves.  Once you see whats inside the PC plug(RS232), you will soon realize its much easier just to
go out and purchase one for about $40 USD.

Updated the Hardware Mods page with a new pic - showing a larger style SMT diode pak used for Freeband
    Modification.

Updated the software mods pages.  They were a little out of date.  All versions as of now can be modified
the same way.  This makes things much easier for everyone.

Yaesu has introduced the VX-1R in Australia a few weeks ago.  This late release probably is a good thing, as the
earlier USA Vx-1R's had bugs (i.e. ADMS software not working properly, cross band not working).  I hope you
folks across the sea enjoy this little marvel as much as I have!

It seems as if the ADMS-1D software might not be available in some parts of the world.  I don't know what the software
restrictions are outside the United States of America.  If you have any questions regarding the ADMS-1D, I recommend
going to RT Systems Home page (use your search engine to find) or one of the USA retailers like; Ham Radio Outlet,
AES.  Ask them about exporting this product.

Problems with ScanAnyBand=1    Some folks have email me saying that it doesn't work.  Usually these radio's
display flashes when scanning and switching from VHF to UHF.  This is an indication that the VCO is out of lock.
For some reason the VCO is not locking fast enough while scanning.  I believe that slowing the scanning rate down
a bit would correct this problem and the CTCSS scanning problem.  My radio will not decode fast enough, and
it doesn't stop while scanning memory channels with either PL or DPL engaged.  If there is any way of slowing the
scan rate down, it would probably a modification of the Yaesu .ini file or something like that....................hum!?
Other problems with the ScanAnyBand=1   Other problems associated with this mod is some radio will scan,
but won't stop on either a UHF or VHF frequency.  It seems to only stop on signals in the VHF, but not the UHF -
or vice versa.  I think this has also has to do with the radio scanning to fast for the VCO or related circuits to lock
properly.  Again, we are back to the same solution - Slow the scanning rate down - but how is this achieved?  I do
not  know the answer as of yet...................I'm thinking again........hum!?

If your emailing me from other than the USA, please let me know what country you are in.  Sometime I get confused
because things are different for other country models.

Dayton98 Hamvention is 23 days away.  R U ready?  Will you be attending?  I know I will!

Still need more info. on charging Ion batteries.  If you have anything E-Mail Me.  From what I heard from others,
is if charged improperly, they will explode, and would be classified as an explosive - just under Dynamite!  I don't
know if this is really true though.  Anyone have any feedback on this subject?

A quick reference chart is available for the VX-1R in the Download Section This has lots of helpful information on
the different functions and how to program these functions.  Print this out and stuff it in the wallet.  Thank you
Charles for this great quick reference chart.

30 Days till Dayton98 Hamvention.  Are you ready???

Yet another update for the VX1 Template Modifier.  In this latest version, it adds support for the Yaesu
FT-50R.  Go visit the Author's Home page.  It always has the latest version of the Template Modifiers.

Some people don't know that CTCSS and DCS can be programmed in the VHF & UHF TV bands.  All you
have to do is use the ADMS-1D software and select a PL tone while programming in V or U TV bands.

You can upgrade your older versions of the ADMS-1C to the latest version for $20.  You can contact
    RT systems for the information.

IAN - I could not read your email for some reason.  If you read this, please try to send again

Finally got confirmation on our Dayton Hamvention Flee market space.  The Flea market space I will
be at is 1519.  If  I'm not there when you stop by, ask whom ever is there to call for me on the radio.
Or Email me for my operating frequency I will be using at Dayton98 this year.

Added a new version of VX1 Template Modifier.

It seems Version A106 of the VX-1R has much better AM Broadcast  receive than previous versions.

3/31/98

Fixed a few bad links for the new VX1 Template Modifier.  Some worked, others did not - sorry about that.
I was in such a hurry to get the page updated, I overlooked a few things.

There seems to be some confusion about  FTZAP and the VX1 Template Modifier.  These are two (2) separate programs
written by different people.  FTZAP came out awhile ago, but did not support the later versions of the ADMS-1D
and the Yaesu VX-1R.  An easy to use template modifier was greatly needed, so Frank stepped in and wrote a much
easier to use program - VX1 Template Modifier.  From the responses i've gotten so far, the VX1 Template Modifier
has worked for most people.  Frank, the author of the VX-1 Template Modifier seems interested in adding
more features to this program.  If anyone has any ideas, by all means, let me know.  Keep in mind, this is not anything
like the ADMS-1D software, but kinda like a much needed plug-in for the ADMS-1D.  Maybe if we get a bunch of
little programs like the VX1 Template Modifier, the ADMS-1D software might be worth having.

Some Email saying the VX-1 Template Modifier needs   msvbvm50.dll.  This is a Visual Basic Virtual Maching file.
I know this is a file used by many programs, and comes with Windows95 (OSR2).  You might be able to download
this at the microsoft web site.

3/30/98

Added a New Template Modifier  for the VX-1R.  This program now works for modifying the VX-1R for
FREEBAND, MARS/CAP, or any other country code.  DOWNLOAD IT NOW
Also created a new page dedicated to  this new modifier for the template files.  This is a great little program!

Added some more information on the squelch resetting procedure.  If you have a signal generator, here is the
    information you will need

If you want to use a CTCSS tone on VHF-TVor UHF-TV (ie, 171.500 or 470.3125), you can just use the ADMS
software to program the CTCSS or DCS tones.  The radio itself won't let you enter in these tones.

Some people have emaild me saying that the address 114C has a different number than E3.  Keep in mind that
the example I have posted if for "Non Modified - USA Models".  If your radio is from a different country, or
has MARS/CAP modifications already done, the address will be different than E3.  Now that a version of FTZAP
had come out for the VX-1R, use it instead of Hex Editing.  It's easier.

Sorry about the deley in my email responces, I just installed a new 8.4 gig HD and had some problems reinstalling
all my hardware and software devices - ya know; reasigning IRQ's conflicts, and drivers that disappear.  I'm back
    up and running now.

3/21/98

IMPORTANT NOTE: Back-up your ADMS-1D software NOW if you haven't already.  My original disk went
dead last week.  It was only 3 months old.  The only way to copy this software is to use a program called WinImage.
This WinImage is a small shareware program that everyone should own.  If you don't use WinImage to make a back-up
of the ADMS-1D, it will only work in shareware version .  This is due to the copy protection RT systems put on the
disc.  If  RT systems put is much effort in copy protecting their software, as they did in the actual program, we would
have software that work and was free of bugs and limitations.  I'm sure you all have noticed that some features of the
VX-1R are not implemented in the ADMS-1D software.  RT systems attitude towards the problems in their software
seems to be: buy our shit, but we don't care if it even works properly.    ...........getting back to WinImage, I use it
back-up all my floppies.  Instead of just copying the files in Win95, WinImage actually makes an exact duplicate of the
    original.

The ADMS-1D version 1.04 can be modified the same as version 1.03.

Many people have emailed me to let me know everything worked great - both versions 1.03 and 1.04. Great job guys!

I have combined 1.03 and 1.04 on one page - -seeing as the mods are exactly the same for both versions,
and have updated it with some more information for radios that already has some hardware mods.

Thanks to all who sent their template file for version 1.04 - It was as great help in confirming things

Now that version 1.03 and 1.04 have been cracked, there are 2 virtual jumpers in the radio, that are only
accessible using the ADMS software.  They are the first 2 binary bits in the sequence.  They are the reserved
ones.  For better details check Country Codes page.

Just updated software modification for AMDS-1D version 1.03.  I have been able to switch back and forth
between the factory comfig. and freeband.

Some people want to copy text from my page, and are having difficulties because of the white text.  I never though
of that when I started this page, that you folks might want to print a hard copy of the page.  The way to copy the text
is to select everything you want ot print from the page, and copy it to the clipboard (Ctrl+C).  Open notepad, and
paste the text (Ctrl+V).  Then save it.  Sorry Mac users, I have never even used one of these machines.  Your on your
    own.

ATTENTION ALL ADMS-1D SOFTWARE USERS - I FIGURED IT OUT - HOW TO SOFTWARE MODIFY
VERSION 1.03 AND POSSIBLY VERSION 1.04 FOR FREEBAND AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU
MIGHT WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  IT WAS PRETTY SIMPLE.  I AM EXPERIMENTING RIGHT NOW
WITH IT. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SWITCH BETWEEN FREEBAND, FACTORY AND MARSCAP.
GIVE ME A DAY OR 2 TO POST IT - PLEASE CHECK BACK VERY SOON.  I WILL FORWARD
MY FINDINGS TO THE AUTHOR OF FTZAP - SO HE CAN IMPLEMENT IT IN HIS PROGRAM!!!!
SOON IF YOU WANT TO DO THIS MODIFICATION, YOU WILL NEED A HEX EDITOR
LOOK SOMEWHERE ON MY PAGE FOR INFORMATION ON THE HEX EDITING THING
    - I THINK ITS IN SOFTWARE MOD FOR 1.02!?.

I need someone to send me their template (.tpl) for version 1.04 to experiment to see if it can be software modified
I don't really see it being any different than version 1.03, but who knows?!  E-MAIL ME if you are interested
    in this little experiment.

FTZAP - After trying FTZAP out, I could not get anything to work with it.  After talking to
the author, we have come to the conclusion that there is a check sum preventing the modification of the
template files (.tmp).  This problem still has to be worked out.  We are working on it so stay tuned for updates.
To find out more  CLICK HERE  or check out the Author of FTZAP's web page

The factory power/charger adapter is nothing more than a regulated 6 volt source with a 2.7 Ohm resistor
(probably to prevent fires, should the adapter cord become shorted)

I've been told by a few people who sent their VX-1R's in for repair and had the CPU changed to
Firmware A106, that their cellular .rdf files from their older firmware (made before the radio was sent
in for repair) will program the new firmware A106 for cellular.  You can't change the cellular portion of this .rdf
file though.  So before you send your radio in for repair, make a blank rdf file with cell freqs in the search bands.
When you get your radio back, program this .rdf file with your favorite freqs, and hopefully you will still have
    cell. capabilities

Many people have e-mailed me saying they are having problem with scanning frequencies with CTCSS tones
activated.  I have experienced the same thing on my radio. It seems like the scanning is a little too fast, not giving
the CTCSS decoder time to lock on to the tone.  This seems to happen with strong signals and weak signals.
The problem also gets worse when the battery voltage drips below 3.4 volts.  This seems like a major drawback
    on the VX-1R.

I would like to Thank Everybody who has sent me information and their experiences with the VX-1R.  You
all know who you are.  Without you, this page wouldn't be half of what it is today - THANK YOU!!

I've been experimenting with the squelch settings and have updated the squelch page.

I've got an idea on how to software modify version 1.03 of the ADMS-1D.  Using a template file already modified
for FREEBAND.  Click here for the details.

I've tried out Bob's (KN6GA) new beltclip and it works EXCELLENT!!!  Never worry again about your $300
VX-1R falling off your belt again!!  GET ONE NOW!   Check it out!

Dayton98 Hamfest is coming up very soon (May 15,16,17).  I will hopefully have a Flea market space this year,
and will post the space numbers, so you fellow Yaesu VX-1R users can stop by for a visit.  I will post the space
numbers where I will be set up..........when I get them from the Dayton98 Hamvention Committee.  If you want more
information on this event CLICK HERE

Still need more info. on charging Ion batteries.  If you have anything E-Mail Me.

FTZAP - Added a small program that modifies your .rdf and .tmp file for FREE BAND, MARS/CAP and much
more.  This program is supposed to work with the FT-50r and VX-1R.  I have played around with it
and haven't got it to work yet.  Maybe I am doing something wrong?  I don't know much about this program
If anyone figures it out - LET ME KNOW.  To find out more CLICK HERE

Bob  (KN6GA) has come up with a greatly improved beltclip for the VX-1R.  If you own one of these fine
radios, this after market beltclip is a must have accessory.  Check it out!

Corrected a few bad links around my page - Hopefully everything is OK now

2/19/98
Seems that the VX-1R can receive cellular images  - maybe better than the desired freq.!

The VX-1 was put on a calibrated signal generator and found that S1 on 864 - 894 requires about
-89 dBm whereas S1 on 946.9 - 976.9 actually requires -84 dBm - the VX-1 is almost as sensitive to
the image than the "desired" signal! - THANKS ERIC!  Give it a try

Does anyone have any more information on the power up key sequence?  I need more information Email Me

Also need more information on charging lithium batteries Email Me if you have anything.  A fellow ham operator
had the idea of making a cigarette lighter plug/charging station for the battery.  This would be not much bigger than
        the cigarette plug itself.

2/13/98
Fixed tables - they should display correctly on different browses

There is a sound frequency analyzer to download in the Download section

Firmware Version A106 is not cellular modifiable for cellular (either software of hardware mods).

2/3/98
Fixed a few bad url links  - they all should work

    Started this "what's new" page

Firmware Version A106 has been in stores for weeks now.  This version is not cellular modifiable.  If you send
your VX-1R in for repairs,  yaesu replaces the CPU to version A106 (whether it needs replacing or not).  It seems
seems to be a FCC thing.  A106 seems to have better AM broadcast receive.

This page is update often, so check back for updates.

I'm told you can receive cellular images by:  adding 82.9 to the freq. you want to monitor.
