Media in Japan is suprisingly expensive. A single Laser Disc or
Digital Versatile Disc can cost anywhere between $48 and $85 before
any shipping or handling are ever applied. Sometimes these media will
only have 30 minutes on them so several may be required to make one full
two hour tape. Translation of 25 minutes of anime can cost anywhere
between $30 and $70. So a tape with three or four episodes of a television series
can get quite expensive.
I don't know what you know about the salaries of educators, but they
are often quite low. So I can't afford to foot the entire bill. I can
absorb the vast majority of media expenses, but I will need sponsors
for the translation expenses.
I have researched a number of fansubbers to see what kind of
sponsorship structure they had in place. Based on this information
I have decided on the following structure.
Sponsorship will be $45 for your first sponsorship slot and $35 for
each one after that.
What you get in return for your generosity:
A VHS or S-VHS Master tape (with custom labels)of the volume you
sponsored. If no designation is made it will be assumed that you
want a VHS master.
The tape will be either a Fuji Master Grade (vhs) or BASF Broadcast Quality (s-vhs)
Your name, website link, graphic, or animation on the volume you
sponsored. You may also choose to remain anonymous and your wish
will be honored.
Your name, website link, or graphic on the RFP website. You may
also choose to remain anonymous and your wish will be
honored.
A hard plastic snap case with custom graphics.
Partial Sponsoship will be $15 per slot.
What you get in return for your generosity:
A first generation VHS copy (with custom labels) from my S-VHS
Master of the volume you partially sponsored.
Your tape will be mailed out before any standard requests are filled.
Your name in the opening credits of the volume you partially sponsored.
You may also choose to remain anonymous and your wish will be honored.
Your name on the RFP website. You may also choose to remain
anonymous and your wish will be honored.
NOTE: It is acceptable If more than the necessary sponsors want to sponsor a certain
volume. The extra sponsor(s) will be notified of the situation and given options. If they
still want to sponsor the volume in question they will be treated as a sponsor of that volume.
The money is then used towards the translations of other work. Don't worry, this money will
always be used for translations.
