About RFP:

Initial Comments at Startup

RFP is essentially a one man outfit. This allows me to maintain a pretty consistent level of quality since I know what I expect from myself. I will be handling all aspects of RFP's fansubbing with the exception of translation (one day perhaps). The drawback to this system is that I may be a little slow occasionally. My life can be very busy at times, but I will try to get as much work done as possible when time presents itself. This setup will differ occasionally when I can get some assistance from online aquaintances.

So now you may wonder why I would do any of this and about my connection to the fansub world. Well before I stumbled upon fansubs I had always thought of myself as a fairly well viewed fan, needless to say this was very wrong. I then proceeded to request a lot of fansubs and got to experience a number of new series. However the more fansubs I saw the more little things I noticed. Certain projects I waited for might get delayed for a very long time or cancelled. Grammar and spelling in some of the fansubs was quite bad or the fonts were so small you could barely tell what was going on. I'm giving this a try because I would like to give something back to the community as well as perhpas inspire better quality if I manage to do any of this well.

As far as my connection to the fansub world. Well as I said above, I have been a big time requestor over the last few years. I frequent the www.fansubs.net message board and offer what help I can. I also edit episodes for the digital fansubbing group Anime Factory. It seemed fitting I now try another role in the community, that of subber. So this is the beginning of an experiment. Time will judge its results.

New comments after a year of fansubbing:

It's hard to believe that RFP has been around for a year. All in all the experiment has been a successful one, but there have certainly been some dry patches in how much I get done. The drawback to being a solo act is that when I get busy, thing grind to a halt. Also when I'm low on money and no sponsors step up, things also slow down.

Thankfully some wonderful sponsros stepped up and several projects outside of Gensomaden Saiyuki were able to be started. I have learned a number of lessons in this last year and I'm doing my best to learn from them. In this new year I will be experimenting a lot with mastering digitally and other time saving methods that will no compromise quality.

I'll have to look at this section again eventually, as this is more commentary then anything else. Thanks for bearing with me.
