Open a new canvas 300 X 100. Use white
for the background color. |
 |
Change to the path tool. (1) If the
shape isn't already set to rectangle, change the shape to rectangle. (2)
Change the color to black. (3). Make sure the mode is set to 2D object.
(4) |
|
Draw a black rectangle about 25 pixels wide
and the height of your canvas. Change to the transform tool if needed
to resize it. Make sure your rectangle
is tall enough so that no black shows at the top or bottom. |
|
Move your black rectangle to the right side.
Make sure no white shows along the right side. When positioned correctly,
right click and merge all. |
 |
Now click on path tool, and in the attribute
toolbar, click on the rectangle, and then custom shape. Scroll
through the frame shapes until you find the decagon. Double click the decagon. |
 |
Again, in the attribute toolbar, click the
color box, and change the color to white. |
 |
Draw an octagon on your canvas by clicking
and dragging diagonally. When you have an outline about half an inch
across, let go of the mouse button. Move the decagon over to the right
side so that it overlaps the two colors as shown here. |
 |
Now change to the pick tool, and in the
attribute toolbar, click the center horizontally button. This will center
the decagon. |
 |
Right click click again on merge all.
Now click on web, shift image. type
50 in the box beside vertical offset, and click ok. |
 |
Now your image looks similar to this. |
 |
Click on the path tool again, and change
the color back to black. Draw another decagon, and position it so
that the black cuts into the white. Here, I have outlined the black decagon
in purple so that you can see it. As you can see, the black decagon
was off the edge of the canvas. When it is positioned correctly,
right click and merge all. |
 |
Right click again, and click on copy.
Open a new canvas, and make this one 300
X 300. |
 |
Click on edit/fill. Click the image
tab, and click in the circle beside clipboard data. Click ok.

Your mask is now complete, and ready to
be added to the easy palette. To find out how to do that, click here.
To share with the rest of the group, save as a jpg, and attach it to your
post. When the new class project is announced, I will zip all submissions,
and add them to the files section. Please put your own name in the
file name so we will be able to credit you when we use the mask.
The next tutorial will cover using the masks to make stationery. |
