RPG MAKER 2000/2003
What are they?
There is a bit of controvesy over these programs..they are made in japan by a company called ASCII/Enterbrain, one day a bloke called Don miguel went to japan and bought a copy, he then brought it back and translated it into english (well, something like english..its his second language), then put it on his website for people to download for free. So its technically "pirated" software, though it has also been brought to a wider audience by his actions... Anyway, lots of people downloaded it and many community sites for RPG making sprung up (most of which where on free hosts like geocities, and became shut down because they where hosting the huge files required to make these games)..but there was an undercurrent of dissent that saw the RPG makers as criminals, and the community sites started to die, and even the don took down his downloadable files of RPG maker 2000.
Meanwhile, in japan Enterbrain where perfecting thier new RPG maker, RPG Maker 2003..but once again they had decided to only release it in japan...the don washed his hands of the whole thing and said he would never translate it, so some other people did and it appeared on the internet..though only in rare locations and never for very long, nervous webmasters moving it around for fear of being caught for piracy..though both makers can be obtained from Kazaa, which is where i got them XD
..Oh, what ARE they though?
Ah right, well they are programs that allow you to create FF6-Like RPG games quickly and easily, by simply drawing maps (made up of 'chipsets', the program comes with a few of them, and others can be found on the net), and adding in events such as people, items, treasure ect by a simple 'press the button to tell it what you want' scripting system
What will i need to play these games?
RPG Maker 2000 and RPG Maker 2003, actually thats a bit of a lie, the makers come with a package of default sprites, sounds and other things called the RTP, most games make use of this RTP, and therefore you need to have the actual maker to play the games. However i will include all the nessicary files to play the games with them, so people without the RPG makers (which are becoming harder and harder to find) will be able to play, though this will result in vast file sizes, expect 15mb and upwards. Of course they will not be put on fortunecity, i'll have to get paid hosting to upload them..
