Chinese Patent Medicines 

Chinese Patent Medicines are an important part of a medical system used by a quarter of the world's population. A typically Chinese patent medicine will comprise six or more Chinese herbs.  An example would be "Principal herb", such as Astralagus to help with a particular problem.  A "Secondary herb", commonly Chinese Ginseng, whose role in the formula is to activate the primary herb, and other herbs in smaller amounts—perhaps Wild Ginger, Liquorice or Angelica that have a specific role to modify the properties of the formula to the individuals specific condition.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Because Traditional Patent Medicines are natural in origin and holistic in nature, their side effects are usually minimal.  With over 3,000 years history of use, most of the undesirable short or long term effects of Chinese Patent Medicines have been isolated, minimized or eliminated.  Occasionally, patients may experience some initial mild upsets that are easily resolved and quickly pass.

Chinese Patent Medicines and Other Therapies
